 *New* Help on choosing which e36... Hey, I'm new but I am not new to bmw's, my dad has a '92 525i. I'm in-love (they are the best built car ever, imo). I want to get an e36 because they are def. my favourite car of all time. I'm on a little bit of a budget, I'm 19 so I only make 2 grand a month, but the good news is that since I'm still at home I only have to pay 70-something a month for insurance on my car (g2 integra) and gas. So, the rest can go straight to my car, and I have a spot in our garage (necessary for mn winters). I'm gonna be paying for everything myself. With that said... I was thinking about picking up a 318is, then supercharging it with a da and doing some exterior stuff, I'm NOT gonna rice it out or make it an m3 clone with badges and everything (I might get the m3 kit but that's all). I'm not a crazy street racer, or someone who would go to the track regularily. So is this a good idea, or should I just save up for a year (gonna be hard but I can) and buy an m3? I'm just trying to think of what will be the better buy...I'm kinda stuck so any input would be appreciated. P.S. If Dado reads this, you and Dustin are GODS to me and my brother. We're impatiently awaiting the release of Dynasty.  We're gonna try to make it out to bimmerfest and other stuff this year or next so we can maybe meet you guys.     |

| I would go for a 325is right off. I dont think you will be satisfied with a 318is. They are pretty weak, but you said supercharge it so then it would be pretty good. A DASC can put a 318is into almost m3 territory. I'm plenty happy with the power of my 325is for now.

| Yeah, I was thinking that too. The only thing that has kinda stopped me from thinking about the 325 is that around here they go for a LOT more than a 318, and I kinda like the 318ti. But, I was thinking if I have to save up like 8-9 grand for a good 325 I might as well wait a few months more and just buy an m3. If I can find an affordable 325is in the area I'll def. scoop it up right away. Thanx for the input! |

| 318ti's are bad ass. Get one of those and slap a downing atlanta SC on it, it would be really fun. There are a couple of sick TI's on the board here with S50s and the like dropped in them. I've spent well over the price of an M3 on my 325, and I'm still happy with it. Dont get a 318is if you plan to roll in it stock for awhile, its the same basic engine as my E30, but it has to drag around like 400lbs more, its a very sedate car. EDIT: Also, think about insurance before you choose an M3 over a 325. I would be paying over double the cost if I were rockin' an M3, but your record may be better than mine.

| Yeah, for some reason 318ti are a little cheaper around here, and easier to find. I'd love one of those, so I might get one as soon as I can, but I don't want to be impulsive and screw myself over later on. Just curious, are the bumpers and everything the same on a ti, or would I have to get a special m3 kit or something to fit on it? |

| Pass on the 318 and get a 325. It is well worth the extra money.

| i own a 325is and i love it.. I'd pass on the 318. You'll find a better range of goodies for the 325is than you will for the 318 .02 |
