I've heard about this mod, but it's a good idea?

This mod is great for some HP up top. You do lose a little torque down low though as stated above. Turner Motorsport offers a cam kit with his manifold for a decent price. Doing the cams with the intake manifold at the same time is a good idea and you do not lose any noticeable torque.

No you don't software for it will makeup for the loss of torque in lower rpms, but it isn't necessary. M50 intake manifold with M3 cams and custom software will create more power than a stock M3

i will agree with everyone else this mod is excellent. My 325is has the m50 engine and it's amazing. If your going to be installing new cams you might want to replace your headgasket with another oem one and clean up your piston heads, and maybe even check your fuel injectors.

If I was doing this mod I would do this
-m50 manifold (www.understeer.com)
-Schrick Cams (www.turnermotorsports.com)
-New oem headgasket (bmw dealership or any euro car place)
-Custom software (www.turnermotorsports.com)
-21 or 24 lb injectors (www.turnermotorsports.com or www.aatunning.com)

Your looking at approx 50hp gain right there, and you'll have good hp up top (m50 manifold) with torque down low (schrick cams). The injectors will give your better throttle response, and turner software will give you the ability to fine tune it all together. To top it all off i would also invest in a cai. With all that you'll be rollin faster than stock m3s.

A lot of people have had problems with the m50 manifold conversion though so I would suggest buying a complete kit from understeer or turner. If you search you'll find the problems others had and how they fixed them.

Best of luck to ya!

To answer your question if you call any of those places they'll make sure you get the right manifold on your vehicle.

No, if you don't get teh eurospeed kit it is much harder to install. I have done both and with teh adapter it takes half as much time.
