S62 head on S14 engine

Can I put an S62 V8 head on the 4 cylinder S14 engine? Will it work with stand alone engine management? Thoughts are apprciated as I try to decide what to do to my car. Thanks.

I don't know what to do about the vanos. How is it set up, would a need more pulleys? I probably can't run the head with stock engine managment. I am also wondering what the bore and stroke on the S62, E39 M5, are? Is it a long stroke, in which case the conversion will not work because the chamber shape would be too small? Also, how big are the valves, intake and exhaust? I would also have a lot of trouble parting with stock S14 head, because it is so good, but if I can figure out how to run the vanos and the head flows better then I might do it? Actually does anyone know how much better the S62 head flows over the S14 head?

So you want to put a V8 head on a four cylinder block...

Sure you can do it.... but it is a complete waste of money.

Why would it be a complete waste of money? It's somthing many of us on here have never seen before, who knows what the results are going to be. I say go for it

The reason why you haven't seen it before is because no one in their right mind would bother or spend money at this idea... a) putting a V8 head on a I4 block b) fabrication costs... c) did I say waste of money?

You say go for it; do you have any technical information to provide? Or do you think it would be cool to see...

OK, there is no proof one way or the other that the passages and cylinders will line up. THAT is the issue, not whether it can bolt up, if it's worth it, etc. One of the heads COULD work, if everything lines up. But you've got tons of things to work out AFTER getting everything else lined up. Cams, timing, fuel delivery, etc, etc, etc. It may work, it may not. And nobody will know until someone tries it.

Obviously I am not going to put the head on the block and just have that be the end. I am trying to figure out whether the passages line up, I am pretty sure the cylinders line up, and I am also attempting to figure a way to run the timing chain, which is the second biggest problem I have faced so far. If you think this would be a complete waste of time consider this, the S14 has 26mm stock intake valves, the S62's are 35mm, the exhaust side has a large difference as well, I thinks it's 24mm to 32mm. The double vanos is oil pressure driven and requires a seperate oil pump to operate the 1340psi mechanism. This pump can be bolted in the place of the AC and run at crank speed. The hollow, nodualr camshafts of the S62 are variable by 60 degrees thanks to the vanos which will provide more low end torque and a much better to end. So if you can put this together in your head you would realize that larger intake and exhaust valves with stronger, lighter camshafts along with variable cam lift and duration would result in not only ample low end torque for the historically lacking S14 but it would also emulate a race head when pushed at high rpm. The S62 V8 motor makes 400hp and is not even close to pushed. A lot of that has to with the heads, they are very trick and are basically another evolution of the S14 head, if you think about it. So before you go running mouth next time putting down somebody else's idea, why don't you think outside the box a little and think of the possibilites, Bavma03 and Mr 325. I don't know if the coolant passages will line up or if the timing chain can work but that's why I posted, for information not for your over judgemental opinion. If I knew the answers to the questions that you posed I wouldn't have ask you. Don't answer a question with a question that is already within the boundaries of my question, thats stupid and makes you look like an idiot. If you have a valid opinion with some proof I will take it and run with it, but making a statement like it's a waste of time and writing it with a whole bunch of ........ all over doesn't make you cool. IT'S AN INTERNET FORUM, I don't know you nor will I ever respect your opinion when you give me a stupid ...... response. If anyone has real infromation about coolant passages or ideas about timing chain and guides that would be much appreciated because that's what I need. Also opinions and reasons against my idea are appreciated too. However telling me that conversion is going to be hard and costly is not appreciated. I KNOW THAT, BMW'S ARE EXPENSIVE and IF IT WAS EASY I WOULDN'T ASK YOU BECAUSE EVERYBODY WOULD KNOW HOW TO DO IT. If it was easy they would sell it on ebay. For the record the conversion wouldn't cost as much as taking my stock S14 to a shop and getting it Evo 3'd with crank, rods, pistons, jets, cams, manifold, headers, gaskets and everything else. Thanks for the nice opinions, no thanks for ..... know it alls who are still sitting in a chat room instead of putting their knowledge to use in the real world, but I still would like more information on coolant passages and ideas about timing chain or anything else specifically pertaining to how it could work or why it won't work. Thanks

To the idiots who posted the dot dot dot (...) and waste of money responses earlier, why haven't you answered my question about piston size? I thought you were experts? Well, I will give you another chance. What is the maximum piston size for an S14 block, can I bore it to 96, 97 or 98mm? Will it be expensive, will it be difficult, will I have trouble removing the bolts, will it be a waste of time, can you do it for me? What is the wall size stock and can I bore it more if I get one piece titanium sleeves made?
