E30 M history ques...

I'm in Italy right now, about to come home, and I saw an ad today on our base bulletin for a 1984 M3. I have seen the car, and its in great shape. The guy is selling it for $900, so it seems like a steal. But did they make the M that year, and if so/not what was the first year they did for that body style? And what year was the first ever M produced?

I thought the first year they made the M3 was in 1986 or early 87.. Not positive though. Get the VIN number and see if you can get some info that way. If nothing else your insurance company might be able to tell you the year. Unless because it is over there they can't find out. If they made one then. It wouild be a good bet to buy it. espesially for 900 bucs. Does it have the wide body? And what powerplant? Get back to me and let me know how you made out. Now I'm curious.

There was NO E30 M3 in 84! Another thing to watch out for is the Itailan M3 was 2.0l NOT 2.3l.

Gett the VIN, either it is NOT a M3 or it is and he does not know the year. Look in the drivers side door, there should be a sticker there, it should say BMW Motorsports there.

all right, I got the VIN and looked it up at three different places. One said 1984 BMW made in Germany and that was it. The other two searches came back saying invalid VIN. I looked the VIN up on the car on the door, the engine, and the insurance papers. And it's correct. But still no model info. It has a six under the hood, but I don't know the dissplacement. If anyone can find more info on it let me know. Here is the VIN WBAAA310409527310. Keep in mind this is a european spec car. Oh, and it's not a wide body, but the wheels on the car are said to be stock, but don't look the wheels the 318/325 come with. I don't know... the guy also said there was a badge on the gas cap door that said spirit, I don't know if that means anything, but just added info.

It's not an M3. M3 vins start with WBSAK, have 2.3 liter Inline 4 bangers with individual throttles, fender flares w/roof extension, 5 lugs and bigger brakes, etc.

I've been searching to find out what this car actually is, and I think it is the 2.3L six cylinder euro 323, or atleast I think. I have been searching online, but I can't find any real info on this car. Does anyone know more about this car, it was only available in europe.

hm, looks pretty shady to me.... e30 M3 = S14 = 4 banger, which is not the case here. Don't waste the 900 bucks!
