That's a helluva swap! I myself have a built 3.2L S50 in my E30 M3, sure i get flak from the purists, but i could care less.. like you said, these cars aren't THAT rare. Boy i bet that thing is gonna scoot!!

And to whomever was talking about a 745i turbo motor, that is quite possibly one of the biggest piles of shit to ever wear the BMW valve cover.. that motor is crap! I'll take an LS6 anyday!

Good luck with the rest of the conversion, i look forward to seeing some numbers..

Cancel the order on your E46 M3 and get yourself a Skyline

Alex, I talked to him on the phone today at quite some length and I gave him your email address (Mchewa0@wfu.edu). I saw he was planning on putting 215 rear tires on there. That would be like driving on ice all year 'round. I told him you were running 255 35 18 on yours. Didn't you say you thought 265 35 18 might git as well?

yeah, the 255/35-18 has fit nicely with some simple sledgehammer modifications to the inner well. I just bashed in the material a little bit and that was that..

It's a 18x9 with a 44mm offset, with a 15mm spacer, so effectively it's a 29mm offset. I haven't rolled my fender yet in the rear, but i bet if i did that, and went to a 20mm spacer (24mm offset) then a 265/35 would fit, but then you're talking about a big differential between front and rear widths and the car's gonna understeer like crazy! 255 is enough tire for me, can't speak for a Z06 motor though!

If i were him, i'd do some Apex Engineering CF front fenders, which are about 1" higher/1" wider and run as wide as possible up front, and then modify to run a 265/35 out back. You could use the Pirelli PZeros in a 245/35-18 up front, and 265/35-18 out back then..

Nice

That car is simply going to haul ass. The reason why he chose the chevy engine is because its cheaper and its American

Bavarian Hot Rod

All of the BMW engines that are decent cost so much just to do a simple swap unless you can get one at discount.

Also: Why would he want to place a 745i engine in his car with the 7 series engines failing.

Derek 350i: I like the idea of a "357i" badge that would be badass

Possible answers: 1) Yes. 2) Not really... and my personal choice: 3) Who cares?

I would LOVE to have an affordable lightweight car with a big engine and good suspension. The car I drive is very nice, but it weighs in at 3600 pounds. I've contemplated all sorts of hybrid possibilities. I haven't done anything about it yet because, for one thing, I live in the People's Republic of California with its special laws, and for another, I don't know enough about it to do it all myself. I've looked at turn-key engine swaps, but oh golly they are expensive.

I totally respect the work done to the car and would love to see it, but the E30 M3, to me at least, is the M3 that BMW should be building. It's balanced- pure and simple.

This engine swap is obviously the craziest swap ever done, except maybe that M5 engine swap, but I just can't see myself ever doing that to my car.

To each his own, congratulations on a successful project.
Put it this way, if I had another E30 3 besides mine, which is in mint condition, I would do something like that. A high output, high reving V-8 that is tuned will rip, like the ALMS car. I know the E30 ///M is all that and shit, but if I had 2, why not.

Ahahahahahaha that's pretty wild!

He's using a Corvette transmission and drivetrain correct? I don't think a stock E30 trans or diff could handle that much torque...?

Nice sleeper!

JRock, you are partly correct. There is no way the E30 trans would hold that torque. We are both using the 6cyl (or M3) diff for now and praying it will handle the torque. BMW put it behind the 535 and 635, and it is really a pretty beefy unit.

The new corvette actually uses a transaxle setup, so a shortened torque tube and shaft would be required. Also, where the tube mates to the trans, it is flared out quite a bit and would require hella massaging to try to get it in. The T56 from the camaro and firebird is a more conventional setup, so it is being utilized.

Here is a shot of the Corvette transaxle with the rear of the torque tube.

At least it doesn't have any Chevy parts in it...

Nothing personal, everyone has their own point of view.

I don't take it personally, but if I had an M20 powered '87, I don't know how much trash I would talk.

Whatever, if everyone liked the same thing it would be a pretty boring world wouldn't it.
