I'm not sure what to think of that. No doubt it's fast as all hell, but is it a BMW anymore?

I totally respect the work done to the car and would love to see it, but the E30 M3, to me at least, is the M3 that BMW should be building. It's balanced- pure and simple.

This engine swap is obviously the craziest swap ever done, except maybe that M5 engine swap, but I just can't see myself ever doing that to my car.

To each his own, congratulations on a successful project.

That thing is not a bimmer anymore but a body shell with some interior and a chevy engine,
There are still more then 100 e30´s in the world that smoke that car, I have seen it all on the net,
Alpina B7 engines(500hp, 650nm torque, Germany)
745i engines(600hp, 700nm torque, Germany)
M5 engines Turbo(500hp, 600nm torque, Finland, Germany)
M20(500hp, USA, Canada, Germany, Finland, Sweden)
S50 Turbo(500hp, Germany)
M50 Turbo(600hp, this is a project Randy Sparres friend is building, Canada)

I would not use anything but a straight fitting Mcoupe parts for the rear, as they can handle the power,

I have a S50B30 Euro powered E30 and am very familiar with any hazzle in modding, but after the first install I could easily install another one, now that I know what is needed,

Ideally a S50B32 Euro is the best engine, fitting a turbo will yeld about 520hp,

Cost : much,
cool factor : the biggest
Performance : Over all the other ones,

hey einhander i have to agree with ya on that point that it isnt a BMW anymore, but nearly a shell like gstuning says. I personally love Nissans with a passion, but my love for BMW has grown being here in germany, Wehn i was back in the states there was a 280z at the race track destroying everyone cause it had a small block chevy in it, a very popular swap with those. Well ater on that night it was racing in the import class and was destroying all and only cause the shell was a import shell, so whta catagory do ya put stuff like that. I dont know just my ranting and raving but hey it is some great enginuty though i mean I would nver think of sme stuff like that

Nice project.... My brother has been saying for years that I should do exactly that (he's a bit of a Bow Tie fanatic). Prepare to get mixed reviews on this site, there are a lot of hardcore fanatic on the board that think what you're doing is sacreligious. Good luck with the project, look forward to hearing/seeing the results.

The only difference is Cost. an LS6 engine costs a fraction of any of those engines up top. For me, that would be a large factor.

Boy, you can say that again... I paid $2800 for a 34K mile LS1 and $1200 for a 12K mile T56 six speed. Granted, I am not starting with an M3, rather a lowly '84 318i, but I will more than likely have less in my whole car than the engine costs in any of those other cars. And that includes the full M Roadster suspension swap cost.

You guys may not know it but the 745i engine can be had for less then $400 in germany, thats 252hp, to put it at 500hp you have to buy a tuning kit for about $600,

I am not against putting in a chevy into a E30,
but you can look at it like this to,

you are cramming a e30 body onto a chevy engine, so is it a chevy then ?? or a BMW,

what is a bmw anyway, a car made only from bmw dealer parts,
if so then few of us are running 100% bmw´s aren´t we

after you change out the
wheels,
susp.
install a turbo,
new exhaust
polyurethan bushings
seats
steering wheel
knob
stereo
alarm
color
body kit
brake kit

Then what are you left with a BMW???
Depends on how you look at it i guess

I remember a guy with a chevy engine and frame and a 318i e30 shell ontop, loved to drag that thing, had slicks and all, was it a bmw or a chevy

I am one of those guys that thinks that bmw´s should have bmw engines,

I think putting in a chevy engine is the easy way out,

I can totally see the purist POV that it should be all BMW. I kicked around a 4.4 / 6speed swap, but simply couldn't afford it. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but to each his own. I think as long as the character of the car is maintained, I don't really have a problem with it.

There is a guy who put a Chevy small block in an e21 and put a Ford 9" rear and tubs.... No thanks.

onebadm5: Just so we're clear, the car in the pics belongs to Bob Heacox. My engine is still sitting on a pallet in shrink wrap. There will be no bowties on my car, though I am considering a "357i" badge for the rear.
