It has not been done, but you might be able to pull it off with a deep enough wallet. Your biggest problem, is that the front driveshaft goes THROUGH the oil pan on the iX. What's interesting though, is that the X5's front driveshaft also goes through the oil pan.. and the X5 is available with the 3.0L M54. You MIGHT be able to use that oil pan, but it depends where the sump is. See, when you put an E36 24V motor in an E30 you have to use a 5-series M50 oil pan. The reason is because the E36's oil sump is in the front, and on an E30 it's in the rear.. the 5-series pan works because it's also in the rear. If you could find out if the M54 oil pan bolts to an M50 block (which i'm almost certain it does), and if the sump is in the front lik eht 5er pan, then you just MAY have a setup. Otherwise, you'd have to do some expensive mods to a 5er oilpan. That's just the first problem.. i don't really know about the rest.

325ix tranny swap iceberg I am in the process of doing this swap right now. it is not easy and it takes a lot of patience and is definitely not a one man job. but it can be done and the difference between the manual and automatic is almost night and day which makes it very worthwhile, if you are willing to spend the time on it... off topic but where in bc are you located?

just going off topic..what is a for sure doable egine swap for a 1989 325i, that will be worth it and be affordable?? getting back on topic: that engine swap sounds like a project that will take time. and if your willing, then go for it. just what engine do u have the m50 2.4l or 2.5L or the 2.0L
