325ix auto transmission problem

Hey everyone. I am having a problem with the auto tranny in my '89 ix, and I wasn wondering is anyone has had the same issue or if you know what the problem might be. Whenever I start the car after it has sat overnight or for maybe a day, when I go to accelerate, the transmission will not shift out of 1st gear. The car will hit the redline, actually go all the way to 7500rpm but stay in 1st gear, and then pop into neutral. I have to accelerate, then come to a complete stop, and repeat this at least 10 times, before the car will finally move through the gears and then it works great from after that, until the car is shut off for at least half a day. If any of you have any solutions to this problem, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, David

Hmmm only things i could think of is that the transmission fluid needs replacing OR the clutch plates are slipping, replace the tranny fluid, if its still playing up id take it to a professional
