| Yea i have a fibreglass widebody kit on my car, im not sure what they are like 'straight out of the box' as we modified mine even wider as soon as they were on the car.
If you plan on rubbing up against walls (dedicated drifter?) then probably not the way to go, try find metal guards. Otherwise, with a proper install they can be reasonably strong.
Have a chat to a good body shop and see what they can do for you.
PS: Remember! if you widebody - fibreglass or otherwise - it cannot be undone (unless you are a really good fabricator) to install the rears properly you will have to cut the body away. If you dont then you will end up with an E30 that looks like a euro lancer with stupid bolt on widebody that mounts on the original guards. So the body flares out but you cant jack the wheels out to match.
Hope this helps, if you want any more info just ask...
