Exhaust Upgrade.. Tips?

Hey all.
i am considering getting a new exhaust for my 1990 318i. But theres so many to pick from?!
Any recommendations?
I am willing to pay around $350AUD (US $205)
I am thinking a cat back system?

i like the ansa sport exhausts, kind of quiet. supersprint is nice but rather quiet also. triflo is super loud. two glass packs is supercheap and sounds good, but pretty loud and a bit redneck.

for that price range, get yourself a magnaflow.

I agree magnaflow!! You can't go wrong with that. I have DTM, but sad to say I regret it. Too loud!!!

every person that said magnaflow has a 6 cylinder. yeah, 6 cylinders sound ok with a magnaflo. have any of you heard a four cylinder with a magnaflo? sounds like fido's ass. unless you want that rice burner sound of course.

I've heard many people just build their own exhaust with a magnaflow. I just bought a scorpion exhaust off bavauto. Saw a few clips of it and it sounds pretty good. Still waiting for it to come in.

ha yea i have full 2.5 from the manifolds to a magnflow muffler then out the side.

still all 6 cylinders....wheres some 4 banger input! my experience with four bangers- single cam m10- ansa sport. loved it, still use it with my m50. e30 m3, tried a variety of things, cats with triflo, deep pitched but droning and obnoxious. no cats with supersprint, a bit raspy and louder at high rpms but very tolerable at highway and city speeds. oh yeah, my triflo would set off car alarms downtown, ahhh fun times.

The other day i'm passing a truck legally in 4th and i lay into it and start passing him, well at about 5,500K rpm's my muffler exploded and i felt an instant power gain and it ripped me ahead way quicker. drove for a few days like that, basically sounded straight piped, it got too loud though i had to get it fixed, so i went to meinekee today and got a new magnaflow muffler welded on it and about 3 feet of piping for about $170 it sounds like a little beast now, and now that i have some back pressure i get my low end back, it was a very good buy.

I heard a 318i with Magnaflow, straight 3" pipe,cat deleted, sounded nice for a 4cyl.
