High Mileage & Thinking Of Future...

Okay, so I have a m20b27 engine with 261k miles as of today...I realize that's a lot and I do know that the head gasket was blown before I had owned the car (around 150k)...but fixed properly..I'm currently having no problems with the engine as of now, but I'd imagine it's not gonna be like this for long considering I might have to adjust my lifters because I'm hearing a clicking type noise whenever my car is running. I hear the s50/s52 engine swaps are common, but what does this actually cost....money wise..I've looked for somewhere where it says something about costs, but had no luck...anyone know what that swap would cost??

Also, was just thinking of doing a rebuild of my engine along with swapping the head from a 325i(2.7i conversion)....

Has anyone rebuilt their m20b25 or m20b27?? I'd imagine they're fairly close in cost...? What am I going to be looking at in the future so I know...

hey man my car has the same noise but i was told thats the way they sound. and to do the is conversion. check out strictlyeta.net /// 1986 bmw 325. there is probaly the best info right there on how to do it. but if you do do it. let me know how its coming along because ive been thinking about it just dont have the balls to do it.

hey i have heard about the m3 swap in our e30s its a hard swap they say that the motor is bigger and harder to fit in try the m5 next year model up im thinking about building my motor and i know from my honda that it would cost less to build than to do a swap. i did a b16 swap in my 91 crx and the price differance was a few hundred than to build my motor. just think about it but take your time with what you do dont cheap out get the good stuff thats the only way to go

e30dirty it is cheaper to do a m50 swap-the 92-95 engines,they cum with timing chain,direct coil ignition etc,& a littl more power,beta mileage.bmws cost more to rebuild,they are nt hondas.
the s50 wil fit,bmw realized that with the s52 to make it aluminum block it wud b bigger so they used an iron block2 save space,check out zionsville motorsport.com for info on the conversion.
the 325e iz a stroked 325i engine,lower compression pistons,milder cams& DME,its an economy engine,bout the same hp az the 320i(129) bt lots a torque...gr8 engine for turbo!
if u wanted2 rebuild it u wud need the i head&valvetrain & high compression pistons& few more stuf
u cud get an m20b25-170 hp,189tq or m50b25-vanos,timing chain,beta economy,190hp,198lbft
the US s50&s52 shares much with the m50&m52 than it does with the euro spec "m" engines so m50,192hp,US s50/s52,240bhp bt lots more torque

has anyone done the i head swap? I called some places and they said that if i get the cylinder head from ireland engineering...will be all new.. for 1300. it would cost me about 500 for the throttle body and intake manifold.. and then with labor it would come out at about 4200$...thats soo much more than i thought it would cost... i dunno what to do....if i'm gonna spend another 4200$ on my car...i might as well just get the s50.
