- -anyone really good at problems help- -

alright i have a 1986 325es with 220,000 miles on it no leaks, has been rubuilt twice now in the past 50,000 miles. has new cooling system complete, and most the ignition system complete, minus the air idle control, and ignition timing control, and the injectors. alot of sensors look like they should be replaced, and however my valves could have got bent from the last rebuild, but she drove perfect for 1000 miles after last rebuild. now the question is she stopped running with full strength and now i smell gas in my dipstick, my spark plugs have oil on them and are burned out every 300miles, my rpm gauge shut off, and also my car will not idle without putting pressure on the gas pedal unless you pull off the connector on my air/idle valve. either way when i run her and keep the rpms up, she once was very queit with my tek exaust and now she is screaming like a banshee and she eats oil, and sucks gas. any ideas i am at the bare end and cant afford to fix everything at this point but need to get the car running. could it be the injectors, or my piston rings, or something with my timing, maybe mass air flow sensor, or o2 sensor, or anything i havent named? i drove her home from florida in this condtion and it has not gotten worse. im completly lost at this right now and nay help would be very appreciated because i love my car and do not want to have to junk her

Lightbulb new info maybe this is more help

yeah she smokes sometimes when i start her. and sometimes she doesnt, im thinking though that there is some emissions problems that is telling my air idle stabilizer to idle faste rand slower eratically, due to some sensor failure in my emissions....but thats a maybe because soemthing isnt reading and also sending oil into my intake. there is no pcv valve in the car so thats no help, and maybe anybody knows if its a big difference having a map sensor or not, because mine is broke also. and looking deeper theyre is a bundle of wires one is pretty small less than 14 gauge i know, and it runs by my intake on the left side facing the front of the car and runs down by the fuel pump and connects to a prong on my block... any ideas what the hell that wire is maybe a temp sensor, or something fuel related or diagnostic, mine is chewed up and i replaced it and it doesnt help or make things worse whether it is on or off...

ok, in my opinion. if you have gas in your oil and oil on your plugs you probably need new rings.. if your burning oil that will destroy your o2 sensor witch will kill your emissions and fuel economy. the need to give it gas to start supports a loss of compression due to bad rings... not to rule out a blown head gasket. you IAC( idle air control) would not cuase this becuase as it gets clogged it would richen the mixture witch you do with the pedal to get it started anyways. as for a pcv systom im not sure if it was fedraly madated in 86 but may have been.. it being clogged may leave hydrocarbons from blowby in the crankcase witch could explain the gas smell on the dipstick or may be sucking up oil and running it back to the intake to foul your plugs.
if you are burning oil theres a very good chance that your catylist may need to be replaced.

yeah, i the head gasket is fine and i checked my valve clearances once more and they are fine, im gonna try to install an o2 sensro soon, but as for the rings i hope its not, people who have looked at it have said they think its either out of time, or i have a vaccuum leak somewhere i havent found yet. if it was the rings i would assume i woulodnt have as much power, which i can still light up the tires, and it wouldnt make too much sense that i get a bit of back fire on my idle. in the back of my mind its the rings but im hopin its got some damn good german engineering and its something else. im about ready to junk it for a 57 bel air though if it is the rings, and no more dtmpower for me.

same issue with my current motor, smell gas in the oil, i KNOW its the o2 sensor though i took off the complete exha. and there was a 1inch gap on one side of the o2 sensors welding bung and on the otherside it was rusted in place...

otherwise i would see NO reason for the car to be running fine one day, then after i mess with the exh it stop running

try your o2 thats what im going to do

yeah thats part of the problem. however today i finnaly got it fixed by taking a piece of sponge and putting it in the hose that runs from my throttle body to my valve cover, and that stopped the leak and she will idle right now, but next stop is the o2 sensor. and then i want to put the ford 19 pound injectors in, would you guys now if my computer will pick up the injectors, and will i need a fuel pressure regulator for that immediatly?
