So here's the deal. I've got an 85 E30 318, that every shop I go to says its european spec (Because of the "W" on my vin) So, seeing as that is (and the fact I've got a brand new stage 2 kitted 4hp22 behind my engine) It's a 4sp Auto, from what I understand is only available in the european versions, so I intend on keeping the car AND the engine on those principals alone. There's alot of custom work shops around different towns can do to make your 318's perform outstanding. With alittle help from google, and your local yellow pages, get to know some shops, and some people, and I guarantee you'll have a much easier time tuning your vehicles, and bring them to your desired specs. Personally, I'm gonna grab another M10 short block, possibly rebuilt, and change the cams, the head, and possibly supercharge it. I'm not sure how things are in other states, but doing an engine swap on ANY car in california, post '77 is about as illegal as smoking joint in one. So in order to keep from dealing with the ass-hole police (especially here in stockton) I figure just work with what I have, and make the most of it. I know alot of you would love to do M20 swaps, and so fourth, but with piggy back ECUs and the availability of shops who DESPERATELY need work, I'm sure we can have a nice come back of bad-ass M10s rolling through the nation. And if ANYONE has an 84 or an 85 318i with a 4SP auto, let me know, cause I think those might actually be worth some cash. Happy tuning everyone.
