Radiator Overlow tank & some newby Queries ('85 318i)

Hi, just brought myself a 318i as a little project / play around car, figured it’s a good start to get to learn the basics.

The car currently has what looks like an aftermarket coolant expansion tank, simply because it doesn’t really fit anywhere, and I would like to get the on that’s meant to be there. After going to the wreckers and looking around at various models I haven’t come across one that has same setup as mine. Most of the expansion tanks I’ve seen are ether mounted on the strut tower or right on the radiator.

I’ve looked for picks / various forums but couldn’t find a picture of the tank. If somebody could point me in the right direction, preferably picks, that would be great.

This is the spot where I think the expansion tank should be, but it’s been replaced for some reason or another. Tho I could be wrong ..



The other queries ..

Is an ’84 323i front strut a straight bolt-on to an ’85 318i ?
Are the aftermarket coils (ie bosch gt40) worthwhile (economy or engine smoothness) upgrade ?

Are there any “mods” or trims to put in place of the cassette holder next to the handbrake ?
