a little bit confused about engines

ok guys im trying to research something, currently the car im getting is a 1990 318is i know its a 1.8, twin cam right? but what im confused about is that some people are telling me that its a 2.3? im pretty sure that the m3 had the 2.3 and it was supercharged right.

i want to know this because here in qld in australia we have new rules coming in where p-platers ( after you get your learners) cant drive high powered cars and stuff. any information about correct engin sizes and specs would be very appriciated. thanks!

I believe in Australia the E30 had the M42 which would be a 1.8L 4 cylinder. As you said its a twin-cam.

I don't know the Aus. market too well so this may not be correct, but atleast its something to start with.

yes the m3 is a 2.3L four cyclinder, but NO supercharger.. dont know where u got that from

Yup Bergie you had it right from the start, the people misinformed you about superchargers and 2.3 displacement for the 318iS :smile:

i got the supercharger thingy from a carsales website, a lady was selling a m3 and she said it was supercahrged, but i didnt think that she did it herself, so i though it was standard, oh well silly me
