Install a chip in your e30 the easy, right, quick way!

I recently got a Dinan chip and was ready to install it. I proceeded to go install it, and had a few writeups in my hand. They make it sound kind of difficult. Well, I get the cover off, and remove the screws, and proceed to look for all of these "tabs" these writeups mention! WHERE ARE THE TABS I asked myself. I could not find them. Pissed off at the writeups, I drove my E30 stock for another day. I took the ecu into my school to have my instructor look at it. He examined the writeups, and the chip, and came to the conclusion the authors were on crack..... So, he took off the back cover, took out the screws again. He looked for a second. I thought from what the write ups said, the board had to be gently pried out. Wrong..... There is a rubber plug in the center of the board. Pull out the plug, and then GENTLY take the board out. Make sure you start all of this on the bottom cover of the ecu, the opposite side to the motronic sticker. Anyhow, pull the board out, being careful with the ribbon cable. Set the board carefully on the cover, with the chip up. Make a note of the die cut out of the side of the new chip. Make sure that scallop faces exactly the same direction of the old chip. Carefully pry the old chip out, side to side with a flat head screw driver. Pull the old one out, and get the new one ready. Make sure the scallop is going the right direction. Push it in carefully, making sure you bend no tabs on the chip. Once done with that, reassemble the whole thing, and go out with some 91+ octane, and kick some asphalt! I noticed a huge difference in power, rev limiter, and fun factor! The car feels totally different!

Sounds like a pain. I was lucky enough to buy an entire ECU with a Bavauto chip already installed. Just swap the ECU. Hows the Dinan chip working out?

Amazing difference, the 2500-redline power is mind boggling compared to stock. It revs much quicker, and actually runs smoother! The torque is great too. After figuring out how to install the chip the easy way, it was much easier, and less complicated, as well as safer than any other techniques I have ever seen.

i assume your car is not stock?
Will this chip benifit a stock engine (m20) to the same extent if at all?

Actually, my E30 was bone stock at this point, the only mod now is the chip. So you will realize large gains on your M20, just the way it is. As of tomorrow, the car will have a performance exhaust system on it, and when my K&N filter comes in, it will have an intake too, which is supposed to help out the car even more with the chip. I will keep you guys updated on that matter.

i have a 325 es with a Turner Motorsport chip, and couldn't notice any more power than if you were to increase your idle speed, or increase your air idle. however the rev limtier is a bit higher, and the car can go a bit faster on the top end, but i think it isn't worht it at all unless you have more shit under the hood. I don't know how the dinan compares, but stock hp and torque for my car is 151 and 171, with the chip it would bring it to 165 Hp and close to 190 Ft.P of torque so for 350$ it would have been easier to spend 200 more to find a 2.5l engine and rebuild that for 50 more horse, or maybe some bigger injectors for that price without making your engine run with more gas and air.

i used to have a 325e (car in my sig) chucked the dinan chip in it aaaages ago. power jumped from 90rwhp to 122 rwhp. rev limiter cahnged to 6000rpm and mapping was a little different. the cam stops making more power at about 5500. best thing you can do to an eta short of major modifications.

It has been a long time for me lol, just moved to TN and havent been able to keep up!!!! I just finished up my exhaust, KN filter, airbox work, and some others, and I have to say, the car really scoots. I am very impressed with the power of the car, it gets around well, and gets great gas mileage!

most of the ebay stuff is cheap shite that doens't do anything good really. not all e30's are worth chipping. in fact i'd only bother doing the 325e. what are you putting the chip into?

i got the chip off a member here aaaaaaages ago.

yeah i probalby wouldn't bother. for what you're going to pay for a decent chip you'd be better off swapping the ecu for megasquirt or something like that. get more power, and less restriction for a few hundred more.
