85 318i master/slave cylinder woes

I am currently working on my project car a 1985 318i, I replaced the clutch master and slave cylinders last night. A very not fun process, probably because I did this without jacking the car up or using the creepers. Why you ask? well because I dont have a proper floor jack and the heater core is currently out of the car so I cant exactly start it up and drive it onto the creepers. So after my hours of work installing both of the parts, and manuvering the lines into place again, they are in. But its reluctant to build up pressure. There is fluid in the system but I pumped it for a good while and nothing. Im wondering if the car needs to be on, because the brake pedal is hard as rock because it gets hit just being in the way, so i wonder if that is taking all of the pressure? Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

I know this post is quite old, but I just replaced my slave cylinder on my 84 325e and I can't get it to build enough pressure either. I have bled it twice according to the repair manual I have, but it still won't build enough pressure to fully disengage the clutch. If this issue has been addressed in another forum, please point me there. So far I haven't found the answer searching.

I'd like to know if anyone else has had this problem and how they solved it.

If I remembered correctly I took the slave cylinder off again and had a friend pump the clutch once and the metal shaft came out then I pushed it back in put it back on the tranny and it built pressure. If that helps but it was a while agao I'm not positive.

Thanks for the reply, I just got the master clutch cylinder off today and it was full of scale and crap, probably holding the 1-way valve open enough to keep real pressure from building up. I cleaned it out and put it back together, hopefully that will do it. if not I'll try pulling the slave and doing what you did too.
