wheels

hey guys..
what are the biggest wheels you can fit on a e30.. the gaurds are lipped and the car is freshly painted so no more body work.. i had 17x7.5 with 215x45 tyres but i put those on my daily driver e21.. the e30 will only be used for shows. its lowered 2.5in may go lower once wheels are on
thanks heaps guys

I was told 18x7 and 17x7.5 were the largest wheels that would fit on E30 (not M3). It sounds pretty accurate, but you might be able to go a bit bigger. Maybe 18x7 front and 18X8 rear?

18x8? No way....especially when it's lowered 2.5 inches.I'd say with a drop like that....17x7.5.

anything is possible with proper offset and massive fender work.

Why make a car look like a covered wagon though?

If you can fit 17x7.5 with a 215/45 on the rear then it just may be possible to fit 18x8 with say a 215/35. Theres plenty of room in my rear arches at the moment and my car is pretty low. She just might fit captain! We're gonna make 'er go as large as she'll gooow!

19's easily fit on the 84-87 e30's with the higher rear wheel arches, you just need the right width and offset and of course the right sized tire.

Yeah i have seen 19s on an e30. I had 18x7's on mine and it was dropped like 2 inches and the car drove great.

I've got 17x7 215/40 up front... 17x8.5 225/40 in the rear. i'm lowered about 2+. 18x8 would be tight up front. even my 17x7s have grabbed the lips and yanked em out.

17 x 7.5 on the rear of mine with a 2" drop, no problems at all, i think you would be able to fit 18's x 7.5 under there easy enough. Width is the issue though, to fit 8 inch wheels (and still keep some decent clearence) you are going to have to play around with offsets or match the backspace of the wheel to the hub perfectly. The strut has to be an issue at some stage

If you went to 18's you would have to go down to like a 30 profile tyre.

How the hell did you fit 17 x 7.5 on an E21, that smells like bullshit to me.

Here are my 17 x 7.5's (high offset though, into the 30's) on the rear of an 84.

Edit: How are you guys running stuff like 225 tyres on 8 1/2 inch wheels with a 40 profile? did you get the speedo changed? cause it would upset it a bit wouldnt it?

225/40 is a near perfect size for a 17" wheel (you're referring to GodspeedM3's post yeah?) Rolling diameter of the 225/40/17 is 612mm - pity it's not a very common tyre size. The stock tyre for a bottlecap is 195/65/14 which gives a diameter of 609mm. So yeah, very close.
