| 50MM 1.8F Why so good? I see a lot of people using this lens and buying this lens. My questions is why? I have one and have not used it much and since I am really new to the DSLR world I was wondering why this lens is soo popular.

| I love my 50mm f/1.4 (I'm a Nikon guy). Was decently expensive for its limited use (~$250, IIRC), but man is it nice... A few years ago, I took a picture of my friend's 1 1/2 year old son using 1000 ISO film in my manual camera (no film winding noise!) while he was sleeping, only by the light of his nightlight and whatever was filtering in from the hallway. I can't remember if I pushed the film a stop, but the resulting picture was exposed correctly, and the grain of the high-speed film gave a softness to the image that was nice. |

| Canon has a couple other fast 50mm too (including the ultra rare f/1.0). Nikon has a nifty for ~$80 too though, and it's an f/1.8 too.

| Same here, just wish I had more chances to use it! My daughters love to pose for it though.

| canon f/1.8 EF (full frame) lens that costs ~$80 retail and puts out pictures that rival their "L" glass for image quality. It's the plastic fantastic baby! ![]()
