I plan on getting this lens when i finally upgrade to the 5D later this year. My 30D is in the mail

You're a madman. If I didn't have access to a 5D I would probably be considering doing the same. Do you shoot a lot of sports? If so, I would suggest keeping the 30D for the speed. I take my 20D to Limerock a lot over the summer and the 5 fps is nice!

Not especially. My camera's time is mostly consumed by my kids and parties and weddings, etc.. I take photos of cars from time to time, but for the most part, it's been people lately. I hope to get into model photography (studio work) I have more than enough room in my house to do it, so I figure, why not

Definitely. The 5D is killer for studio work and still shots in general. Especially when mated to the 24-70. The definition, saturation, and overall sharpness are insane. Josh has the 1Ds Mark II and it blew me away when he said that the 5D produces shots that are more similar in resolution to that bad mofo than he would ever have expected. It's a great camera to shoot with coming from the 20/30D because the controls are so similar, and you have so many more ISO gradients that can really come in handy when trying to get that "perfect" exposure.

wow.. I'm closer to the 5D than I thought

I just remembered I have a handful of weddings that I'm doing in the next couple months.. I think that maybe by June-ish I may have it

Those shots above are testament to my reasoning.. the camera is damn near perfect. the images are incredible, and with the right glass, you're talking about serious quality imagery! And the fact that I can buy it through costco makes it even more awesome :P
