Cool Painting the whip

I have come to a conclusion that yellow is too flashy. I have been getting pulled over quite a bit lately. But just last week I was drifting in a parking lot that is somewhat hidden. Got caught with a ticket. I have been drifting there for years with my other bmws. Yellow seems to be attracting bad company.

I am a poor college kid who barely can afford my car. Any tips on how to paint it?????? Any web sights that would really help??? Advise???

Anything would be greatly appreciated>>> OVER LOAD ME!!!

I would never paint a dakar yellow M3 any other color. It is up to you though. I wouldnt go painting a great car on a budget. Do not cut corners. Just dont act stupid, and drift in parking lots, and you have no reason to be worried about bad company.

No offense to Dado (much respect; got me into drifting) yellow just isn't me. I have currently obtained a sand blaster and spray gun and an enclosed painting area (thanks D&SNGRR) not going to cut corners, not with my beloved machine. That is why I want to know everything before I do this. Thinking about either silver or a dark blue.

I'm not a fan of yellow either, too flashy for me I like 'em nice and simple, which is why I plan on getting my m3 in black.

But in reply to your post...I don't know much about painting a car, so I don't know how hard it would be, but let me say this: Good paint jobs costs a LOT of money, and there is usually a reason why certain things cost a lot. And that reason is usually because either the materials used are expensive, or it takes a lot of skill/know-how to do it. Even if I read up and studied on how to paint a car, hell, even if I practiced on some POS car, I STILL wouldn't be painting my car, especially if it were my beloved m3!

IMHO, if it were my car (and like I said, I don't like yellow either, I borderline hate it, no matter what marque it is, no offense to you yellow-car-owning-people out there), I would just leave it as is until I was out of college and could afford a nice paint job, or sell it and buy a newer m3

You are going to be tremendously disappointed if you try to repaint it yourself unless you are really, really experienced. Even then, the factory paint jobs are very, very good and anything less that a professional repaint job will look like something from Earl Scheib. While the yellow is an "arrest me" color, it actually looks pretty good on that car.

Just got to avoid stunts (like drifting in a parking lot) that will draw attention to you.

I love the yellow, its first performance car that I seen in yellow an yellow just suites it....Stick with the yellow PLEASE dont try respray as you will never get it right and you will be disappointed.

I wanted the yellow but ended with a avus blue, dont like the colour but dont want to take a chance getting it resprayed.

Come we swap....

We'll when it comes to the painting, i would practice on some sheet metal with your cup gun first, you wanna get used to it cause they all spray a litle diff. make sure you get a decent one and the compressor has been drained and you don't leave air in it cause the moister will fuck up the paint, and i wouldn't use a sand blaster either, there is alot more effective ways of sanding your car.... and also, the glossier the paint the more imperfections are gonna show.

Make sure you go with a good sealant, then self leveling primer, and put on about 2 coats, then 2 coats of clear coat, and after that, just let it sit, for a few days.

i let my first car sit for about 45-50 hours and that seemed ok, the second one i let sit for 3 days in at room temp, it' depends on the materials. best thing to do for something legit, is just stirp it dwn, hood trunk headlights tail lights ect.

always remember the better prep you do the better the paint will come out.

good luck.

pics when your done?

man i dig yellow.
i think yellow looks good on almost any car.
especially a bimmer.
just the other day i saw a yellow bimmer on the road.
and i nearly crashed.
theres just something about a yellow car that gets me spinning.
i say you stick with the yellow.
