tire shine?

When ever i give my car a good cleaning I sometimes like to put Meguiars NXT Generation Insane Shine on my tires. I only do this a 2 or 3 times a year as I only like the "wet" look for special occasions, not something to have all the time. I am curious to find out if using products such as this can cause damage to the tire? Any info is appreciated!

Armor All WHICH I USED TO BELIEVE IN can actually dry out ur sidewalls. I now use Gold Class tire dressinbg from Meguiars.

I use the armor-all tire gel, really good shine BUT! the freakin crap goe's on the body and barily washes off not to mension that dirt dust whatever sticks to it like crazy. Dispite the cons armorall gives a really good shine and if you put it on let it sit then take a rag and wipe the tires down too get most of the access gel off that way none of the gel will sling off onto the side walls, 10-30 minutes should be enough sitting time depending on how much time you have. I've noticed it stays on for 3-5 washes after application. Otherwise the Armor-all origonal works good if you spray it on the tire generously then wipe it off and let it sit for 5 minutes then take a rag that has armor-all on it and wipe it down again, that gives it that clean look not so shiney-natural shine. I think you should'nt worry about the armor-all drying out the side walls if you drive your car alot, your tires won't dry out faster than you will change them. But if it's a show weekend once twice a week car then i would'nt recomend it. Use the foam, spray once wait spray again wait some more wipe tire with rag spray again for finish application, the reson why you have to spray so much is because it leaves marks on the tires if theres not enough. I gotta say I have alot of experience with tire shine going through a step by step proccess only makes it better last longer and not screw up your side walls. If you want a good tire shine easy application just right shine you're gonna have to buy online for lot of money well four to five times as much as the auto store meaning armor-all. Maybe what i said is too much for me it's nothing for you it's only three times a year. Some people think I'm crazy i just like to spend time with my car. Hope this info comes in handy. (sorry so long)

I never use tire gel/shine anymore... It creates an oily layer on your sidewall so if you are driving (Very spirited) around a corner or onto / off of a highway, your tire might slip right from under you.

This happened to me a year ago. After doing 'teh clean' ( SSR1 / 2.5, VM, EX-P, Natty's Blue and tire shine) I was on my way home via 95. As I was getting off of 101 to 95, my back end started slipping out from under me. I was lucky enough to know how to control the slide, but it was still a surprise. keep in mind I was only going about 50, nothing too crazy, but it scared the $hit out of me.

for all those who do use Tire Dressing...just don't over load it and watch out while cornering.

Just my .02.

I use the Meguiars tire gel. It is great stuff. I put some on, and follow up around it with a rag. I wipe all the excess off, but I make sure to stop before I hit the sidewall tread.
