| New Find......Maybe.. So I was underway with my monthly interior detailing and I came across a section that had been nagging at me since I purchased the car. I'm not sure if this applies to all e36 owners but on mine ('96 328ic) I have felt-type weather strips that run around the door. They are about and inch wide and start at each end of the door sill (one going up the length of the a-pillar, the other stopping at the base of my rear window). These are rubber on the e36 318ti so perhaps this only applies to verts. ANYWAY....being OCD with my cleaning efforts I noticed these felt strips had accumulated an interesting mix of what looked like alpaca fur, moose pubes, and goat-sac mold (maybe I'm wrong). So enough of wasting your time...here's what works to clean the bloody hell out of them in less than 15 minutes.
Step 1: Get yourself a roll of the lint remover (the kind that goes on the
roller applicator)
Step 2: Tear off a sheet.
Step 3: Start at the top and work your way down pressing the sticky side against the felt strip. Hit the same spot a couple times in a downward sweeping motion (rub it like you were wiping a smudge on glass, don't just dab).
THE TRICK: Only wipe in one direction. You'll notice a gathering of nastiness at the end of each stroke. Every few inches you can just pick this build-up off or dab it with the sheet. I ended up using about 10 sheets. You'll want to keep feeling the sheet to make sure it's adhesive qualities are up to snuff. If not, new sheet time!
My apologies if this is old news but I thought it was really effective...and quite cheap. Cheers. |
