Pretty happy with NXT as a last-resort temp "fix"

Attempt 3

Okay, the car was in its usual post-Winter trashed-paint state, and I did not have any time to even begin the detailing process that lasts about a month and then gets maintained for the rest of the season. So I tried NXT the morning of the UCONN car show, and damn if it didn't actually work extremely well in smoothing out the countless swirls - along with filling in a good amount of the finer scratches, and subduing one of two glaring scuffs on the lower skirts!

I am pleased. Of course it is nothing compared to the full cleansing that is happening soon for the car, but for a desperate solution that took less than an hour to hand apply and remove, I really couldn't have asked for anything better in such a short time frame.

It looked really good on the tow truck too.

Looks great Chris as usuall!!! Great pics too! I need to ask you a few questions about cameras, suggestions on what I should buy, and or if you knew of anybody with a nice used one for sale. The sony cyber shot 3.2MP is just not cutting it anymore!

I've been using NXT for about a year now (applied with an orbital buffer) and I stay increasingly happy with its results. Glad to hear its worked for you as well, your car looks incredible!

I like my DSC-F707, it is a perfect point-and-shoot backup to the D70 I have been using for the past six months and the new camera that I am considering buying. While I do not think that Sony makes the 707 any more, I believe that they do make its successor the 717, which is also another great 5 megapixel point-and-shoot if that is what someone is looking for. The 707/717 may not have the instant response, total image capacity, or ultimate versatility of a digital SLR, but the pictures are still pretty clear.

For instance, I took this with the 707, and I think it holds its own pretty well with a lot of the pics I took with the D70 over the past few months:

Remember when your car kept pulling that carload of kids back around for another-and another-and yet another look? That was a fun night.

Another pic from the 707

there's now the sony 828, which replaced the 717. nice pics with the 707. as a 717 owner, those are impressive photos.

oh, and the car looks great! best of luck getting it back on the road.

Car looks nice. But I still think the canuaba wax has a brighter shine to it. Check this out. I detailed this M with canuaba wax.

The synth "waxes" like NXT have a different shine when compared to the carnaubas, I give you that, but in this case just applying a carnauba wax would not have helped the car. If anything, all it would have done was highlight all of the swirls and paint irregularities that I did not have time to properly remove with the PC - By comparison, the "fillers" in the NXT were able to subdue a lot of the swirls and even nicely hide some scuffs and scratches, and all with a hand-application, something that would have been impossible with any of the available top-shelf carnauba waxes.

Of course, the "filler" parts of NXT are temporary, and within a few washes the car would be back to its swirled-paint self, as unless the prep stage is completed the NXT is just as temporary band-aid. Hence the title of the thread "last resort temp fix."
