"Claying""

This , may sound very elementary coming from someone who loves washing cars, shining up interiors blah blah! but : what is claying?????

"Claying" is when you use a clay bar prior to polishing and waxing to remove any contaminates from the paint. The soft clay will actually pull contaminates out of the paint that normal washing won't remove. It does not remove scratches. Proper procedure would be to wash your car, then spray a panel with a quick detailer to provide lubrication. (Some people use soap and water.) Break off a piece of the clay roll it in a ball then flatten out in the shape of a patty. Rub the lubricated panel with the clay in different directions. Dry panel off. Do this to the entire painted surface of the vehicle. This is a real quick tutorial! But it is really that simple. It gives you a very smooth clean surface to start your polishing and waxing!

claying is the best detailing tip i can give somone. wax's and polishes will come out much better and last alot longer.

i remeber i clay barred my car the first time in like 2 years of ownership of my m3 and man i've never felt the car feel soooo smooth and seeing how much color came out of my Cosmos. Even tho it was a black car it made teh black sooo much more smoother to look at.

Claying is an important part of detailing, especially if you have a light colored, think white, car. A white car will show every spec of dirt or embedded crap. You need to get rid of this. It also make the paint so incredibly smooth. The posts above give good info, id like to add this article for you to read. It shows how to properly clay, and even includes pictures.
