Washer Fluid?

Okay, maybe this is a really dumb question! But my windshield washer fluid reservoir is getting low so I need to refill it. Well I would just put any normal windshield washer fluid in it but the original stuff that was in there certainly didn't smell like normal washer fluid and was clear not blue. Any info on where I can get the original? I would assume from the BMW dealer but how much does it cost or is that part of the maintenance program. I called and asked them about it and they said just to put any type of windshield washer fluid in. Thanks for any input!

uhh, go spend a dollar and buy any fluid. Even the dealer is saying to put anything in. You're making a way bigger deal about it than necessary

Yeah! I know it’s not a big deal. I was just curious what the stuff is that BMW uses and puts in the car when it is new from the factory. It seemed a lot stronger than the ordinary fluid and I liked the fact it is clear. I was just asking if any one knew. Not going anal over thinking I need to have the original stuff, I was just curious. Thanks!!!!!!!

washer fluid is really only a light mixture of soap water and alcohol nothing really special about it...mostly water and alcohol

Not to beat this to death but the original BMW stuff had a really strong alcohol smell to it. I got the point though. I just thought maybe since my car had the headlight washing system that for it to be effective it needed the stronger solution since really all it does is spray the headlights not wipe them. Thanks for the input!

edwars2, don't feel bad when the time comes I want to refill mine with the clear

stuff too. I hate the way most washer fluids turn the reservoir blue or green or whatever. The factory BMW stuff keeps everything looking clean. Please let me know what you find out.

Word. Rain-X is good. I bought a jug of it for under $3 somewhere.

You want to keep your reservoir clean? Use that Castrol purple cleaner crap on the exterior of the reservoir (do NOT let it sit on your paint!!!)

I bet AMSOIL sells something that costs $50/gallon though and is guaranteed to not only clean your windshield but change the weather

Thanks for the hummor! And a jug of rain-x for under $3, where? HA I never liked Rain-x personaly. Years ago I used it and I use to get a really bad glare at night and I know others that love it and those that hate it. Seemed to depend on the vehilce. Might have something to do with the angle of the windsheild on different cars that reacts differently with uncoming lights.

Okay, I guess I'll just go get a gallon of rubbing achohol and mix it with water. That ought to fix it! Better yet get a gallon of thinner and that will keep those pesky bugs off my windshild and headlights... and my hood and fenders. Maybe a little paint too but its worth it.

Totally joking!

Just a thought!

Since windshield washer fluid is made up of water and alcohol, isn't that bad for the finish on the car since alcohol takes off wax. So the stronger the mixture, more you should wax your car right? Or am I totally off key? Any opinions?

Where do you guys buy your blinker fluid?

I've heard nightmare stories about buying synthetic stuff and dealerships voiding warranties. Then again, the Redline fluid is supposed to be the best.
