| It can be done with the stock headunit. but its a lot easier and straightforward with an aftermarket headunit. this way you can more easily tone the mids highs and lows, and get it perfect. also an aftermarket has preamp outputs (plugs for the RCA patch cables).

| You will also get way more power to those subs using rca's from an aftermarket deck...just hookin up to speakers or something to send signal to amp, doesnt usually produce the sound and quality of rcas from a good deck.. |

| Out of all of the units on the market today I would suggest a pioneer as being the most dependable, they have just plain good quality work. but pretty much nowadays, youre not going to have to look too hard for differences in headunits, theyre almost all alike. So pretty much, just look for one that goes best with your tastes, and has atleast one set of preamp outputs. the rest is pretty much show.

| he is right about pioneer they seem to hold up very well these days, alpine is great too, my personal favorite is eclipse...very good quality sound and performance...plays scratched cd's like the rest can only wish! j/k i am sure the others are pretty advanced at playing scratched cd's, i have just noticed by owning, clarion, jvc, sony, pioneer, and alpine that the eclipse seems to play some of the cd's the others wouldnt...in my display board i plan on using a cheap walmart jensen radio and an eclipse side by side with the same scratched cd to show the customer why they are paying a little more for a better product and why the money is being put in the right place by purchasing one of my head units! the eclipse also has a 3 year warranty if installed by a authorized eclipse retailer and eclipse will replace your radio if it is stolen within the first year you own it(the warranty card must be sent in for this) and their radios have the security feauture called "ESN" where you program a disc into the radio and if someone steals the radio or the radio loses constant power you must use the key cd to unlock the radio... |
