| Alpine 7998 praise!!! Yesterday I competed for the first time in Hershey, PA at Import Wars. I was in the rookie division and I expected to get killed since I had not been able to get my car tuned by an RTA meter before I went to compete. I ended up parking next to a veteran competitor who had an awesome supra and he helped me with my car. After 5 minutes of tweaking my Alpine 7998 my system sounded better than I had ever heard it. The time correction features made the imaging perfect, to the point that I could tell where every member of the oprchestra was standing. I ended up winning my division (I was the only car in my watt class but my scores were amazing) and had I entered higher I would have done great as well. I can't thank Alpine enough for making such an awesome HU, and thanks to Dave for helping me tweak!

| It will be different for every speaker brand. Do you have MB Quart QSD's?

| I am having soooooooooo much trouble tuning my 7998! Please help! There's too many options for a rookie like me. I can manage the time correction just based on the distances from the speakers, but the Parametric EQ and the Crossover control has me all messed up. Can you help? |

| Well what problems are you having? Is it too bright? in that case just go to the eq (hit eq, then hold it down again) and hit band to get over to the high frequencies and turn them down a bit with the volume knob. The only way to tune the car for imaging and soundstage is to get a reference cd (something you know REALLY well and have listened to on good headphones for a WHILE!) and listen to it on your stereo while changing the speaker levels on the crossover, and messing with the time delay. You want to be able to close your eyes and tell where the members of the band are standing. i use the Eagles Hell Freezes Over since the recording is second to none. I adjust until I can tell that all the Eagles are standing in a line ewach playing a different guitar piece. If you want I could also send you a copy of the IASCA judging disk that runs through several imaging tests and is a great way to calibrate your system. I ended up with an extra copy after the last competition. I could meet you at the Starbucks parking lot Saturday night if that's cool with you. Drop me an e-mail at mborger@smcmail.com or marcborger@yahoo.com

| the website gives the right info to get the speakers to play so that all the sound hits your head at the same time, but to tune it so that it sounds perfect is a different deal that you have to adjust yourself to fine tune.

| Okay, I got it now. Holy crap it sounds like I put a new system in (again!)! Thanks a lot, I didn't know how to access the parametric EQ from the head unit. I was messing with it on the Alpine website and downloading it, but didn't switch it on or was I able to fine tune it while listening. Now I have and it is absolutely amazing. Thanks again for the help. |
