| actually... I lied. I hate this thing, it uses PoET protocol to connect and my cable/dsl router won't work with it, I don't think it supports it. I need to get a longer UTP Cat 5 cable (the cheap stuff I have doesn't work, it shouldn't matter if it isn't utp but it does in this case..) so anyways. Sorry guys, I'll buy a cable tomorrow.

I think Earthlink tried to force that on me saying I would need to buy a router from them that supports "PoET". Any decent router should support PPPoE, I know the Dlink Di-604 which costs like 40 bucks supports it and its really easy to setup. And the problem with the cables, how long is the CAT5 cable? Can't you remember from your networking class that CAT5 has a lenght limit of 100 meter (328 feet). |
