legal score or outlaw?

i mean i can stick the mic up in the port and ill be 160+ db.

on the dash, legal and ill be much lower.

Ive never been metered but from my guess and experience from hearing other cars at competitions im around the 140-145 db range at dash. This is just an estimate not a legal score.

SQ is more important to me now though....

My setup is more of an SQ system, but I did have it metered, and I hit 138.6 db. That was with my old box firing backwards. My new box fires forwards (much cleaner and louder and less rattling), but I have yet to have it metered this way.

edit: By the way, my setup consists of:

Premier DEHP-740MP CD player
CDT Audio 4" component sets
CDT Audio rear fill 5.25"
Phoenix Gold Amplifiers
Two Alpine Type R 12" subwoofers (sealed box)

I really like it, and that's all that matters

I believe him..

His box is ported; it is possible... his equipment is not mind boggling but getting to 131db doesn’t require mind boggling equipment…

As db get higher it becomes harder to squeeze an extra db out.

Ex:

Going from 100db-120db is very easy.

Going from 140db-160db is much harder.

Since his db levels are low (around 130 db) then they are very easy to obtain.

Let me break it down for you:

Assume his boss woofer's efficiency is around 92db. He has two. That’s +3 db. He is ported. That’s about another +3 db. His amp is probably putting out ~256watts RMS. That’s 2^8 watts.

So take 8*3db = 24db gain from wattage.

92+3+3+24 = 122db

In a car you have about a 12db/octave boost in low frequencies. Normally low frequencies are about 10 db louder in the car when compared to the subs playing a large room. Its called cabin gain.

So, 122db + 10db = 132db.

Wow! Gawd I can’t believe it! Those 2 boss subs actually do have the potential of reaching 131db.

I suggest you do not bash other people’s equipment and say they are lying when in reality you should read up on car audio and have a little bit more knowledge about the subject when posting.

Don’t worry about it azbimmer82, there’s always haterz.

Thanks
It's a pretty fun car. I'm getting it to handle really well (25mm front and rear sway bars, Koni adjustable shocks, TME sport springs..etc) Only thing it could use is a little more power.
