| mp3 headunit problems, help I got a Sony mp3 headunit and regretted it since After a few hours of driving or on hot days the player starts skipping songs and at times just doesnt function. Is there any type of heat resistent insulation i could get at a local home depot and wtap atound the headunit to prevent it from heating and skipping songs? TIA By the way I fot it at CC and got that 3 year store warranty, but those this qualify as a defect? |

| sony mobile audio is junk. i thought they were great, considering they had everything first like the new HD and all the cool retro look, but they are just junk. my headunit broke because of a defective cd reader, this happened to my friend as well.

| Thanks, I'm definetely going for the Alpine or even an indash monitor but I'm afraid it'll get stolen on campus. So just to get one thing straight, "your" indash headunits never skip as a result of heating up (ie heater on or on hot days? 95+) or should I expect this from any headunit? thanks again |

| what bitrate are you running on your mp3s? some head decks can't handle a high bitrate...I believe only alpine can handle any bitrate. mine can skip at bitrates above 256. |

| Hey i have a Aiwa Mp3 player and it also skips on hot days or whenever its playing for a long time. But since i have a Cd changer it not to big of a deal. But I alsow know a couple of friends which cd players also skips when its hot. |

| I have the kenwood excelon x859 mp3 unit and it works great, never skips. Like horizon stated, the kenwoods do a good job of matching with the BMW interior. only time it skips is (obviously) if the cd is scratched or dirty. I used to have the aiwa mp3 player, and after it heated up, it would start skipping a lot. My brother has the same sony unit you are talking about in his TransAm, and he has the exact same problem. the kenwood solution is cheaper in the long run than getting an in-dash and a cd-changer, besides, with mp3 players it is like having an in-dash changer anyway, without having to wait while discs change. | thanks for all the feedbcak, I def going to look into a better system, but until then I'm going to look for ways to insultate the headunit and or see if i can get something out of the 3 year warranty I paid for. |

| CC definately has better stuff than the sony xplod series. My suggestion is to tell them your problems, and I'm sure if you bitch a little bit you should be able to get a different brand of similar value replaced at no additional charge. the "extended warranty" you paid for should be transferrable, too. I wouldnt go through the hassle of insulating it and trying to fix the problem. Just tell them you expected a quality product, which you did not receive, and you were so dissatisfied with it that you do not want to get any more sony products. It has always worked for me ![]() Rob |

| Return it, and get a Kenwood, Alpine or Pioneer....I have the Alpine CDA 7894...and it NEVER skips. Sony is shit by the way...dont buy it again. one other thing....DO NOT INSULATE YOUR HEAD UNIT!!!!!!!!!!! your deck needs room to breathe....it IS an amplifier you know, so if you rap it up in something, you will only make it hotter.....and your warranty WILL NOT cover customer misuse or neglect. I am rather surprised no one else has told you this yet. Any electronic piece of equipment needs air flow.....thats one reasone they say not to put your vcr on top of your Home theater reciever. Good luck.
