| little old message, but what the hell, i had a blaupunkt miami beach 51 or something like that and i had the same problems as you, i didnt understand it, not sure what it was, or if it just had no breathing room, it didnt seem to be very well ventalated, took it out and decided i'd order the Alpine CDA 9815 was kinda glad when i found this post, means that it wasnt just me who had problems with their cd player getting hot, mine would get hot after about 2 hours of play, or during the summer it was always hot, and would just get fuzzy really bad and after a couple more hours would start to skip badly |

| thanks for the feedback. I unfortunately still have the cd player and have not had the problem during the winter, spring and the cars been in the shop for the last month or so. But I'm sure it'll start skipping again as soon as I start driving now that summer's here. On a side note does your new headunit due this at all? Thanks again |

| well, i got my Alpine CDA9815 in, and parked my car so the sun was hitting the cd player, and left it (bout 93degrees outside now) and then when i got in a couple hours later the faceplate was not even really hot, and when i turned it on and listened to my mp3 disc it was completely clean sounding and after about an hour of driving there was still no sound distortion and the faceplate was still not even that hot, so when i have to make my 300 mile drive this weekend, i can put it through a better test and see how well it keeps cool ![]() |

| Bump Took it back to the store, tech replaced the laser w/ a new one and the very same day on my drive home it stopped working (once it gets hot it stops playing any CD's). What can I tell this guy to do as far as replacing parts. He seems determined that there is nothing wrong with the headunit. Help |

| R U running external amps? If so, there should be a way to turn off the internal HU amp which is what is causing your problems. I have a JVC SH99 MP3 HU and swear by it... looks great too. Never had a problem and the features are excellent.

| I'm just using the adapter to feed the sound to the car's amp. The real problem is that the inclosure for the headunit gets really hot (it got hot even without the headunit inside it. But alot of people on the forum have aftermarket headunits and do not have the same problem, so I'm assuming the reason mine stops working is because SOny uses cheaper material (vs alpine) and the heat is then tranferred to the headunit causing it to stop funcioning. Many alpine owners have replied that they do not have this problem at all (I mean one e36 should be the same as another right?) |

| In the sony product manual does it say how to turn off internal amp? Any aftermarket HU will run superhot while using HU's amp. Notoriously inefficient. See if this is an option which will at least make life bearable for now. My experience has been that Sony is only good for home electronics.

| Dude, If you bought the 3 yr extended warranty, take the damn thing back. It is a no questions asked warranty. If they give you shit, tell them that the thing is a ****in piece of crap, and wont even play a gaadamn cd and you want your ****in money back. Don't let those uninformed ****-tards try to bully you...they are dumber than you think. Get your money back, or trade it for an Alpine. I have TONS of 320 bitrate mp3s, and I can play them all damn day when its 100 ****in degrees, and all damn night when its 20 below zero. Take that POS Sony back...Or I will drive the 2100 miles out to your house and take i back for ya!!!

| thanks man I'm plannin on taking it back today after work and screamin my ass off (seriously). It's fuken embarrassing coming to a stoplight and having your cd player skip and stop in a Bimmer, even worse with friends in the car. Now I just need to find out what to do to get them to award me the money I paid for the unit toward another product and if its as simple as it sounds. Thanks again Last edited by Red Bimmer : 08-10-2003 at 12:00 PM. |

| since u already had it for two years then they wont accept it as a return or exchange anymore, they will only keep repairing it free of charge, looks like ur screwed. i would try selling it privately and getting whatever money u can get for it and go out and getting urself an Alpine. good luck |

| Update w/ Good news (like anyone cares) But I returned the POS back to the service center, got a call from the tech and told him I was upset with his work and talked to the manager, got approval to exchange/credit. Paid a little over 100 bucks and got the Alpine CDA-9811 and this thing is an awsome headunit w/ mp3, wma, xm, equ, tilt, cd changer control..... Very satisfied and no problems and it has a fan Thanks for all the feedback guys |
