| audio system dilemma - help Alright all, I just got my '02 M3 w/ SMG and the hk sound system and navigation in it. Now, I did not get the dealer installed 6-cd changer because I have a FULL pioneer system that I took out of my previous car. This system includes the p9000r dolby digital/dts decoder/brain unit, the p7000cd 7" flipout display, the 6-DVD changer, the cdx-1270 12-cd changer and a couple other things like LCD displays for the visors. Now, here is my dilemma and my proposed solution.
Dilemma : I would like to use my pioneer brain unit to make the sound for the system and use the hk speakers to play it FOR NOW. I have some speakers I will put in eventually but not now. NOW, I DO NOT want to use the flipout display as there is no place to mount it and I do not want to detract from the stock appearance of the car.
Proposed solution : Alright, heres what I am thinking. I know that the stock navi system can be made to display composite signals with a little wiring and some mods to a pioneer product. I did this for my last car and it worked great. Only a 4-wire connection to the display (R,G,B,C-Sync). For those of you that dont know the pioneer system - it pretty much only functions through the remote control. There are only buttons for brightness and angle mounted on the flipout display. What if I was to wire an IR detector to a relay that would switch the decoder on and off for a delayed amount of time. So, the result would be I could have my navi lcd showing me my on board computer stuff on the left and the GPS position on the right using that split screen mode. Then, whenever I used the remote for the pioneer audio system, the relay would latch for a couple seconds and show me the pioneer screen so I could select tracks, adjust volume, etc. I could also use the PAC-X interface to wire up the steering wheel controls as well.
What do you guys think? Its really hard to explain so if you got questions, post em!
