Audio question

I was wondering if i get a new head unit will i need to get a new CD changer or will factory cd changer work? Also if i got a new head unit will i be able to use factory speakers and amp?
I know nothing about car audio!

I have a 97 M3/4, I have replaced everything in it. The factory changer will not work with any aftermarket head unit. IF you want the best head unit, go with eclipse, they are top of the line by far. As far as speakers, I have MB Quarts all the way around, excpet in the rear deck I have JL Audio, which I may change. I have a PPI (Precision Power) amp pushing the inside speakers. I have 2 12" MTX Blue legend subs, they are ok, but I want to get JL W03 subs. Pushing the subs is an Xtant 121M 250watt amp. My system knocks and is very clear. To do it right it will cost some money. Even if you upgrade the head unit and changer it will sound better, until it gets too loud then it sounds shitty. You dont have to have an amp push the speakers, but it will make a world of diference. I found my head unit, the eclipse 55410 on ebay, $120 it was a steal, they retail at tweeter for $279. If you want speakers, go to carstereotime.com, they are the cheapest around, I have done alot of looking. You probably have the same set up for components in your doors, which is a 5 1/4" in the kick panel, 4" mid in the door and a 1" tweeter. In the rear deck you have a 5 1/4" and a 1" tweeter. This is just some of what I can tell you, I have been around professional car stereo installers and relatives for about 10 years, so feel free to ask me questions, my aol name is rusty74 if you want to im me. I can also give you models numbers for all of my speakers too. The old saying goes, japanese head unit, german speakers, american amps and subs. I wish you could hear my system, I am sure you would like it.

are the speakers from a 97 m3 and a99 m3 the same.

cuz mine got 5 1/4 in the kick panels....and the tweeter is an inch...

but i never found a replacement for the other speaker which looks like its 2 inches...
and no one makes a 2 inch speakers...

is it the grill that is only 2 inches..and the speaker is 4...
or is it only a 2 inch speaker..

and we got different speakers.

actually, the tweeter is .75 " with a 1" casing and the midrange is 3"s

Hi,

I know in my 1997 I had a 4" in the door along with a 1" tweeter, I don't know if the 99's changed tho.

i appericate the advice. What would you recommend for a changer. i want i head unit that plays mp3's can the eclipse one do that?

Hi,

I just checked the eclipse site, www.eclipse-web.com/, and it appears they do no thave an MP3 changer out, I am sure they will and when they do it wil be top of the line. You can always call them and ask what the future holds for MP3. I am going to get the 5083 for my car.
