Speakers - Getting to the wiring, uninstalling etc.

Component speakers and rear deck. What is the proper way to get to the wiring, and removing old speakers and installing new speakers?

I would like to do this myself. If anyone wanted to scan their Bentley manual (if it even covers this) that would be sooooper.

Not much there.

I have a 98 M3 with the HK 10 speaker audio package.

The two grill covers just pry off very easily. Pull them up from the backside, and they pop out.

There are 3 phillips screws holding in the speaker housing, take these out. Then there is a small metal spring clip holding the housing to the deck on the inboard side of the speaker housing. Unclip this, and the speaker should just fall down on the wheel well.

Then the wire harness just disconnects from the housing and you can remove the housing through the trunk.

7mm bolts hold the housing together, phillips screws hold the tweeter cover and tweeter in place.

Don't know about other models, but I would guess the housing is the same without the tweeter assembly.
