Alpine CVA-1005 Question

I will be installing an Alpine CVA-1005 video monitor into my car this weekend. I have read that you need to override the can't display for safety messages for the video output on the screen. What exactly does it take to override this? Also how does it know that you are moving. Any information on this radio will be a big help. Thanks

When our store does an installation of an in-dash video piece, there's a connection to the e-brake so that video cannont be shown unless the e-brake is on. I'm sure it would be very simple to defeat that. Of course, you realize it's illegal and I can't tell you how to do it :-)

but it might involve a switch connected to the ebrake wire that needs to be clicked on and off twice

Hey! The foot brake wire needs to go to 12v. So when you step on the brake it sees 12v. The hand brake wire needs to see ground when you pull up the hand brake. I hooked up the foot brake just like it should be, but I hooked up a toggle switch on the hand brake wire. Now all I have to do to unlock the unit is step on the foot brake, switch the hand brake toggle switch on, off, and back on and let of the foot brake. This unlocks the video and I can drive like usually. Hope this helps!!!!

I think I read somewhere once that all it takes is grounding the hand safety wire anywhere. Would be illegal too . . .

Thanks for your help. I will give it a try. With this toggle switch do you have to do it every time you start the car? Have you or anyone you know been in trouble for having the video on while driving? Thanks

Hey, yes you will have to flip the toggle switches everytime you start your car. They do have those little black boxes that automatically does it for you on Ebay. They run about 80 bucks and you wire it and forget it. I have been pulled over once awhile back and the copper just wanted to see if I was watching anything. I just told him my friends were playing some video games and he let me go.

which wire is the 12v for the foot brake on the car and what places can i find it

I have my CVA-1005 Bypassed with two switches so I do not know the exact color. Check the connector on the rear brake light. Look to see if there is a Green and White wire running to it. If there is try to find the same wire in the driver’s side under the plastic cover that runs the length of the door opening. If you find the same wire I would recommend stripping it back and checking for the 12v with a meter as you depress the brake pedal. I will see if I can find any diagrams for a 325 for you. If you can’t find it I can tell you how to hook up to switches to override it.
