Radio Wiring Help (Please check this out)

Hey Guys,

I have a problem here, I have installed a blaupunkt san fransisco cd player, with the wire harness! This is the way I hooked it up! Power (+) and Ignition (+) to the same Power Wire from the one (in other words I connected both -ignition/power wire to one wire!) Which turns on and off fine! And connected the LR(+)/(-), RR (+)/(-) to the rear speakers (+) and (-) terminals! And connected the FR (+)/(-), FL(+)/(-) did the same connected it to the (+) and (-) terminals on the speakers! However, when I connect the tweaters, the sounds seems to get degraded, it still doesnt' sound good! How do I hook up the wire from the radio to the speaker that I can use both speakers and tweaters so they sound good, any suggestions! Oh ya, also the RCA outputs are connected to a 160WATT RMS MTX Thunder amp, running a 400WATT JVC Sub (150RMS) I think! Please help me out, I wanna hook this up in a way so I can have amazing sound using stock speakers! Do I need something like a crossover or another amp, how does this work , please explain to me! I ran 2 wires to each speakers for a total of 8 wires! From the LR,RR,RF,LF to the speakers, Please help me guys!!

Thanks,

BMW M POWER

first of all the stock speakers work on an 8 ohm system, regular car stero stuff works on a 4 ohm system, what you need to do is get new mid range speakers and run the speaker wires directly from the amp and then hook up the tweeters using an inline crossover.

Ya I have a 87 BMW 325I! I have canceled the fader, I have ran 8 wires to all 4 speakers, 2 on each one! But how do I hook them up so that I can have the tweaters aswell as, cause lets say I hook the LF (left Front) speaker wire to the left fron speaker, and the RF (right front) to the right front speaker! So now I hooked up the two speakers in the front, with 4 wires, 2 each! + to +, - to - on both speakers, so how do I get the tweater to work! I tried to hook that up to the same terminal as the + and - speaker terminal, but it doesn't sound good, and degrades the tweaters and speakers performance! I have ran 8 wires total , 2 each speaker X 4 speakers! So how do I hook up the speakers and tweaters in a way that it sounds good! I have tried everything!

crossovers

To use the tweeters and the mid-range speakers, you need to run a speaker wire(+/-) from each output of the deck (LF,RF,LR,RR) to a crossover (=4 crossovers) then branch from each crossover to the mid and tweet for that corner. Here is a diagram that would work, each blue line represents a speaker cable with a pos wire and a neg wire:

If you are looking for truly great sound, you need to replace those old speakers. 10-15 year old speakers have worn out voice coils and rubber, so they sound way worse than new, and in the 80s no factory speaker sounded good anyway. Honestly, the investment in the deck is pointless without proper speakers. Boston makes a nice component set(mid and tweet) of speakers for around $200 a pair, I think. I have some high end Boston speakers in my Jeep, and they are awesome. Dynamat behind the speakers to seal off an enclosure for them as well, it will improve the bass response (even if you keep your stockers it could help a bit)

Thanks alot for all your help, where do I get the crossovers from, I know that I need the crossovers to seperate the speaker and the tweater, where do I buy this? and how much is it? Does future shop sell this? What is it exactly I am looking for I don't want to spend a furtune, cause I am gonna get new speakers, when I have enough to buy them! I have bills to pay, lots, so till them I will get the crossovers are they expensive? and what is a decent price for all 4 of them, what I am trying to say is, what is it that I am looking for?

Thanks,

I'm not sure where you could buy only crossovers, I've never looked for them before. I know that most component sets of speakers come with crossovers. Check out Boston Acoustics look at the FS50 series components. They are the cheapest Boston makes, but definitely sound good. Your best bet would just be to go to different audio stores and listen to different brands and see what you like. Also, try to find people with systems in their cars that you can listen to. Look up crossovers on the net, just find one that has line level inputs and outputs, because you need to filter the frequencies coming from the deck's speaker outputs.

I recommend just waiting until you can afford a couple sets of component speakers with the crossovers before you spend money trying to make your factory set up work. Even if temporarily you just went with one set in the front and nothing in the rear it would sound a lot better. I don't even have rear speakers in my M3, just the front mid & high, and the subs coming from the trunk. Stereo sound isn't necessarily meant to have a rear channel anyways.

Good luck!
