Radio Code

All,

I recently bought a radio from a 1995 M3. I tried installing it today and I need a code? I took the radio to the dealer this morning and they advised it would cost $60 for the code. I decided not to pay the $60 since I can buy a nice head unit instead. Is there any way to get this code other than paying $60?

I was just curious.

i don't think there's a way to figure it out for yourself unless you have a hookup at a BMW dealer. if you don't have the code, they can do some trick (forgot how exactly... my bro knows) to bring up the serial # for the radio, then enter it in their system to get the access code. i think u'll be better off getting a new HU anyway

You said you bought a radio, so I assume you aren't putting it in another M3. 325 I guess?

The radio code is in the back of your owners manual on a card. If it isn't your car, then you don't have the owners manual that goes with the radio so forget all that.

I was going to say take it to a dealer, they have to get radio codes all the time. $60 is too much, BMW of Fairfax will do it for zero dollars so find someone that'll do it for that.

thats pretty scumbag of the dealers. they should help you out. try call ing The Little Garage in wwodside queens. those guys deal only w/ bmw and are very knolageable and will probably hook u up.you can also try callig the guy you got the radio from to see if he still has the code, he should have it unless he stole the h.u. Where in nyc are you. i want to see this rx7

I'm in Queens NYC. I drag race with the guys from T and R Racing. If you go to customer cars, its the first one on top. Silver Rx7. I'm all over Queens with the car but currenlty installing a race motor for this season.

I like driving the BMW so much that I dont know if I can go back to driving the Rx7 !!!!

i think i spoke with you on hillside ave a few month ago. i saw some kid with a dope rx7 all kitted up and he said it was over 400 hp. the kid was indian or guyanese or something. was that you?

Try this..turn the car on with the head unit on..when it ask for the code, push m , wait about 5 sec. You will see a number pop up. That's the serial number of the head unit. Call the dealer, they can enter the number in the main computer and pull up the code for you, if they even try to charge you for this, report their ass to bmw. My dealer told me to bring the car in and they charge 50 for doing it...Phuckkk dem

If every dealer would give you the code for free, people would just steal YOUR stero and throw it thier car, the code is to prevent theft!

I am trinidadian also so I think I know who you spoke to. I think you might have spoken to my freind Randy, he has a green one. You might have spoken to my friend tony, he has a black one, they both are all kitted down. Tony is pushing 500 hp and Randy 360-380. Either way I know them both. Kinda like you BMW guys on the lists, you always know each other somehow.

The lights on my radio went out, along with the lcd, I bought one off of ebay from a guy who said he would include the code but didn't. He wouldn't reply to my emails either. I called up Crown BMW, my local dealership, told them I unplugged my battery to do some stuff and now the radio is asking for a code, he goes, what's the serial #, I gave it to him, he said hold on, 5 minutes later he comes back and gives me the code. Crown BMW rocks.

the little garage is just as bad as the dealer I took my 4door m to get inspection 2, the bill is still hurting my *ss. I probably would have paid the same at the dealer and gotten a loaner at the same time.....the only person there worth speaking to is demos

I just dropped it off thinking it would be cheap and not thinking of getting a quote, dealer had quoted me like 750 one thing the little garage did was fix a bad brake line.

Holy schnit, that's crazy, I have a 328i, and the dealer quoted me $500 for parts and service plus sales tax on the parts. I'm gonna check with a few independet BMW shops to see what they charge. I'm due for a inspec II myself.
