| Dont know much about em, but I have seen some really impresive things with the kickers that have the sewn in butyl surrounds...compvx i think they are...but DAMN....very good tight response for a 15 incher....could only imagine what the smaller ones can do....theres a boston accoustics shaped like a 6x9 but bigger that handles some crazy amount of power(in the 1000 rms range i think)

First of all it is not shaped like a 6X9. It is essentially a 10" woofer that has been cut and stretched. It sounds like 2 really high end, high excursion sound quality woofers. We do rate it at 1000w.rms, but they've been known to take much more than that. BTW. I am one of the foremost experts on Boston Acoustics Mobile Audio product in the country.

Me personally, I'm a fan of well engineered, well built product that sounds good and holds up to abuse. I like the following: Boston Acoustics SPG, G5, & G3 JL Audio W6V.2 Image Dynamics IDMax Hertz Mille MTX Thunder 8500 Critical Mass UL series However, I realize I may have a larger budget on my speakers, since it is not only my hobby, but it is my career.

| Sorry. I handle New England. I have nothing to do with any territory outside of that. Besides, when you said this: You basically said something along the lines of, "I was going to buy a BMW, but I was able to get a better deal on a Hyundai."

| A wicked little sub here fellas. The HiVi Research SP10. $170. Here is the link. Parts Express:HiVi SP10 10" Subwoofer At .8 cuft sealed it is 3dB down at 45Hz. This bitch weighs 28 lbs. Another sick one is the Lab12 from eminence. About 140 dollars. Parts Express:Eminence Lab12 Generation II 12" Subwoofer These are actually a pro audio driver but if you can live with a 2.5 cuft box the sensitivity is a lot higher. 89dB 1W/1M vs 84dB. Huge difference. The HiVi will play lower in a smaller box tahn the Labs but you know what. I high pass at about 40Hz anyway. Anything lower is just wasted wattage. 40Hz is a wave cycle that is 27 feet long. Why paly lower when you can play louder. To play the equivelant gain one octave lower than 40 Hz ie 20Hz takes 10 times the power. I say gain the 3dB for that same power than an octave lower. That said if you can spare the space the Lab12 are sick as shit. There is also a Lab10 that rocks too. And like I said because these are designed for pro audio applications they are fucking loud. High sensitivity. I can guaranty that I Lab12 in a ported box of medium size with .5kW will get you in the 125-130 dB arena. And then you can be like me. A not hearin mother fucker. |

| Of course if you want to go all balls you can get the Aurasound NS18. https://www.solen.ca/pub/cms_nf_cata...au2=1&niveau3= 4 inch voice coil 2 inch excursion 3 peak. 180 square inches of piston times 3 inches of travel moves 541 cubic inches of air in one stroke. That brown note baby. If only there were such a thing. The possibilties would be great. |

| CarAudioPro, I do like the BA's. I have a pair of VP695 towers at home. I took out the original drivers though and replaced the 5inchers with some Aurum Cantus AC-130 5.25's and Morel MDT-30 Tweets crossed over at 1.2 24dBoct. Sweet tweeters. Very low Fs. Built my own butterworth's using Jantzen 14 gauge ducters and Solen polycaps. Did a little Zobel network to. The 8 inchers I replaced with those HiVi SP10's I was talkin about and sealed the enclosure. I dont like ported boxes. I push em with a BK Components integrated amp on the tops and 800 watts of Adcom on the bottoms. I just saw that you are a Mcintosh rep and thought you would appreciate that. Macs are the shit. I saw a mac being used for a door stop in a barn in Denver. I about beat someones ass. Try to buy it but the dude started wondering why I was offering a 100 dollars for a door stop. Maybe I should have offered 10. Just got too excited. The best THX system I ever heard though was some McIntosh cones, Bryston Amplification and a Proceed PAV decoder and transport. Not a big surround fan but that shit was bad. |
