Aux Input for e36

Daughter's 1997 328i
Standard 'Business' radio w/cd
No CD changer

Desired:
Daughter wants to play her iPod in car. iPod FM transmitter does not work well in that car for some reason, and I understand that the cassette adapters sound bad

I have been searching the forum, and it sounds like an iPod signal could be fed into the CD changer audio input with just a little electronic conditioning of the signal. The tricky part is getting the radio to switch to the aux audio inputs since it is not getting the expected signals from a CD changer. I have hung up one of these radios before while working on a changer, and had to disconnect the car battery to get it to reboot.

My other daughter's e36 has an adapter by Peripheral Interface Components that makes her Pioneer CD changer talk to the BMW Business radio. That adapter has additional RCA input jacks on it. Would one of these adapters feed the iPod signal to the radio and send it the necessary logic, even if it was not connected to a changer?

Has anyone successfully fed an iPod signal into one of these radios?
