| hey, i need to do something about Audio in my car!! Its a stock standard system, with 5.25" splits in the front and 4" coaxials in the rear as in all e46's (Correct me if im wrong). Im thinking about replacing the speakers to Focal's or MB Quart's so that they can fit under the grilles, but what i would really like to do is hook up an 8" or 10" sub as well. Is this possible without having to replace the head unit??? What needs to be done to get a sub connected? Does anyone have any reccomendations/suggestions? THX |

| You can hook up a sub to the factory unit no problem.. All you need is the wiring kit and harness. Any good audio place could get a list of all the parts you need, and go for the 10" sub, they hit just as fast as an 8. JL audio is superb in quality

| Yeah you will need a new amp along with it. Highly suggest JL for both the sub and amp.

| Duh, I completely left out amp(s)! thanks deafboy...My boy had a single JL W7 13" in a ported enclosure in his X-5.. That shit would blow the hat right off your head at moderate volume. And it wasnt skull shattering bass, but perfectly pitched to every bea,t and you just want to turn them up louder and louder.. He also put two W10s in the M5 he later got- same thing.

| Ive been looking at the JL audio range of subs, they sound sweet. obviously il need an amp to run all that. I didnt want to spend too much on amplifier(s), but want a good quality one. Can anybody suggest a type of amp to meet my needs from their own experiences? How can i get away with having just one amp to run speakers and a sub? Would i need a 2-4-5 channel amp? and what would be the best way to set up the whole system, here is what i (will) have. Focal or MB Quart 5.25" splits, and 4" coaxials 8" or 10" JL Audio Sub Amp(s) + Factory BMW Business Head unit |

| I would suggest two seperate amps...a four channel amp for your speakers and a mono sub amp for your subs... as far as what you want depends on your budget. So...
