JVC KD-S8R installation ??

I've been trying to install a new headunit to my friends car, without any success.

The problem is with wiring. Unit itself works fine, goes on in Acc position and off when key is removed so it looks like everythings ok, but the player loses all the memorized radio stations ?!! Could someone with JVC head unit please tell me how it should be wired ?

Istallation manual can be found here (.pdf):
JVC KD-S8R

So far the wiring is as follows:

+12V "live" goes to A4
+12V "acc" from lock goes to A7
GND "ground" goes to A8

Thanks !

there will be a memory power wire (A4) that will need to be connected to a constant power line.
that way, when the car is switched off it is still supplying a small bit of power to the head unit to keep it's memory alive.
my guess is that the location that you have A4 connected to is not a constant power source. i.e. when the car is off does it have power? re-check where A4 is connecting.

Well, the A4 is connected to a "live" source at the moment so I don't know what possibly could be the problem??

When I first removed the unit, A7 & A5 had a live feed, but if I understood correctly, according to manual, A5 is meant to be used for a motor antenna, or amps etc.. So it should be an output, not an input ??

The remote wire from the head unit should not be connected to contast power. If you do this and run a CD it possibly will fry out the preamp of your deck. You should get a LCD/light tester or a multimeter and test to make sure the wires from the car are what you think. Make sure those are correctly the contast and acc/running leads. Many people reverse the two out of the car. Its very common.

usually the red cable goes to power, its the one that even if the keys are out it gives power. yellow goes to "-" the one that gives power after you turn your car key. if you connect it that way and it still loses memory its the unit that is messed up.
