| not to sound like a complete noob, but where is the stock amplifier on th e36, in the head unit or somewhere else in the car(i think its in the trunk like the e46), im just curious cause im in the market for an e36 and the first thing im gonna do is replace the factory stereo with an aftermarket one and i'd like to know as much as possible about it |

In the left of the trunk. If you replace the head unit, all you need is Stereo wiring harness and an antenna adaptor. Do not forget to energize the remote turn on lead with the amp turn-on output from the new aftermarket radio, not the power antenna output. Otherwise there will be no sound when you play CD's.
