| 94 325ic / needs bass Hi, I have a 1994 325i convertable. I have a sony mp3 cd player and the sound is excellent, only there is no bass. I would like to put some subwoofers in the trunk but have been told I will get no sound when the top is down (which is almost all the time). Has anybody else come up with a solution to this without destorying my interior? Thanks |

| destorying your interior would suck! JK There is no way to "contain" the bass in your car when the top is down. The solutions is as follows: 1. Surface area (as in cone surface area) The more subs, the more air you will move, the louder it will be. (its only physics) 2. Power, again, the more the better. 3. Get the bass into the car. Take out the center arm-rest pad and hidden compartment, cut through the carpeting so that you have a hole from the trunk into the passenger's compartment. now I've worked on 8 different 3-series convertables over the last 10 years, here's the best sounding set-ups: 1995 325ic, dual 10" JL Audio 10w3's with JL Audio 500/1. Subs in a custom box, rear firing, trunk Dynamatted. 1994 325ic, Four 12" Jl Audio 12w3's (in a custom box built into the spare tire well) with a kenwood Excelon mono amp, wired to 1 ohm for a total of 1000 w/rms. and the biggest surprise of all, 1994 318ic, one 10" JL Audio 10w0 in a JL wedge box, rear firing, with the arm-rest and storage compartment removed. Powered by a 200w kenwood mono amp. This car was the biggest surprise, it sounded really good with the top down, and it was the most modest of all the systems I had done over the years. No matter what you do, you will lose volume when the top is down.

| Thanks for the info, I dont want to remove any interior components, how do you think it will sound if I dont. I dont necessarly need tons of bass, but would like to hear and feel some. Do you think I will if I dont do any interior modifications? Also do the trunks rattle alot, is the dynamat a neccessity. I dont want to have a gigantic vibrator driving down the street. Thanks Curt |

And the only interior component to remove is the removable cushion in the rear seat, You can always put it back when you are parked, or showing off the car.
