| Audio Systems J3 L U N T here... Im finally getting ready to pput my name on 'the list' for the 2002 m3 and was wondering about the audio system because im an audio addict. I know very well that the harmon kardon system is slammin but, i have a small intuition that ill have to rip it out in the near future when i have money again to put in a new system... or is it compatible with aftermarket systems. All i really would want to do is amplify the speakers all around including the 2 subs that harmon gives you, add a new cd changer capable of mp3 decoding, switch out the headunit and have it capable of dvd playback with a lcd screen, and navigation. now can all that been done in addition to the harmon kardon or will it need to be ripped out? i was hoping that the harmon kardon system could stay since it is a 12 speaker 2 sub system. PLEASE GIVE SOME ADVICE anything is helpful to me... i wanna put my order in soon with all the specs.!!!!!THANKS.. |

| I don't have the luxury of driving an M3, but I just ordered all new Infinity Kappa's for my car (52.3,42.3) and a 4 channel pioneer amp to power it. For me, the stock speakers/amp are pure crap. I used mysimon.com to find the best prices on amp's,speakers and ordered it from the net. I've spent $430 on all that plus a nice kit to install the amp and better speaker wire. Installation at a place like Best Buy/Circuit City would probably be $200 if you don't have the luxury of having a nice audio shop near you, or you don't have someone to take care of it for you. The equipment hasn't come in yet, but I'm guessing the money I spent on the Infinity/Pioneer will sound much better than the HK. I'm keeping the stock head unit/6 disc in the trunk just because I like the steering wheel controls. Mp3 changer is nice, but I don't know if they make one compatible with the BMW head unit. If you're an audiophile, save the $600-$700 that the HK upgrade is, and buy real stuff. Just my opinion.

| I heard that the harmon kardon system option isn't all that great. you may just want to stick with the business deck, save some money and get something more worthwhile in the longrun. Good Luck. ![]()

| It'll take a few dynamats to cover just the surface of the trunk, plus they are expensive: http://www.dynamat.com/.

| Yeah, Dynamat isn't cheap. Plus they add the evil 'w' word to your car. WEIGHT. I'd opt out of the H/K system and buy some nice aftermarket components and 4 channel amp.

umm yeah Dynamat adds weight but aftermrket speakers and 4 channel amp doesn't? ha ha! The HK for my M3 is not worth the money I paid for it, if you turn it up remotely loud it rattles the whole cab and it doesn't pack much low end either. Going to get an alpine MP3 player and some Orion HCCA subs and amp. I'm selling the whole HK system on ebay very soon. Brian |
