| Wiring a CD player in (searched)e36? I am new to DTMpower.net and BMW's, but i have a quick question.Last weekend i bought a 96 328i and it has the harmon kardon system in it. The mids in the doors are blown - tweets seem ok, and kicks seem ok and rear woofs seem ok - and the factory headunit does not display anything(i can see it in direct sunlight. I think the LED lights are burnt out inside. - I have a panasonic headunit from my last car - and i was thinking about puttin it in the car for now until i find a nice headunit that matches th interior and has the features i want. but i dont really know how or where to find directions for wiring it in ( i know how to wire, i have alot of wiring expierence) but im 99% positive this car has factory amps, and i was wondering how you guys bypass them, or wire into them ? And your opinions on replacing just those 2 speakers in the door? aftermarket or OEM? thanks in advance |

| First of all buy a wiring harness for the deck, and you will need an adapter for the antenna (euro adapter) make sure that your wire the amp turn on lead (i think its a white wire)to the amp lead on the wiring harness, otherwise your factory amps will not turn on. Otherwise this is a pretty easy install. As far as the speaks in the door are concerned, they arent really a mid, they are more like a lesser tweeter, and you could probably do without them and never really notice. I replaced all speakers in my '96 328is (non H/K) and do not have those in the door hooked up. Hope this helps.

| Thanks, I figured since there are factory amps, and there is not amp on the OE headunit that it might have some funky wiring. Ill get one of those turbo wire harnesses and antennae adaptors. I priced the OE h/k speaks at $64.40 dealer price. I have a friend that works at ultimate electronics and he priced me a set of the infinity 3" and tweets for $110. I might go that route. |

| Hey I also say buy a wiring harness if it's just temporary(if not then use a club connection)also about those speakers....h/k is a piece of crap.I mean they're better then stock but if you can get your hands on a blaupunkt system, performance teknique system,or a coustic system then you will really be proud of you system.also don't go with infinity.I've had many an experience with people who dont like how they over power eachother at different times and how it sounds spotty at certain ranges.I would definetely say to go stock replacements to keep everything in tune but if not then at least replace the whole system.Another brand you might like is jl because they make awesome component systems and are definetely in the audiophiles' hand book |
