Hi everyone I drive a 2002 BMW M3 that I just got on April 13th. I love it! I recently got my 12" JL W6 sub installed and it sounds freakin awesome inside! But on the outside it makes an awful rattling noise. The rattling is only there when I have the music up loud, not crazy loud but just loud. I mean theres only one sub in there. Anyways, the rattling isnt coming from the trunk, atleast I dont think. It sounds like its coming from the bottom of the car, like the muffler or something. Does anyone have a e46 M3 with subs? Im not sure what I should do about the rattling. Also, should I worry about the sub hurting my car? Can the rattling over years turn into a problem for my car? I dont wanna slowly loosen my car apart. Any comments would and answers would be awesome! Thanks guys.

um, well you may want to go through and torque down most of the trunk bolts and bolts for the linings and everything. you may just want to jack your car up, get underneath the mofo and turn up your music. a hanger for the muffler could be loose, a bolt could be loose. you never know. if you have a spoiler, tighten that down, those are gonna rattle a lot. you should try dynomat or other sound deadening material. that and tightening down the bolts will get you the most out of your music.

| i would just dynomat the hell out of the trunk floor/wheel wells, this will definately help. most of the rattle will most likely come from the trunk lid, so make sure all bolts are tight, you might even need to spray some expanding foam up in there to make sure panels arent banging together, good luck cause mine rattles like hell, but i am working on that

... could be your spare and jack... Or it could be your muffler is loose or something, I'd have to hear it to really know what I'm talking about though.

Not sure about e46, but the e36's have trunk vents (on the both sides, like near the bottom of the trunk and middle.) and they rattle really bad on the outside if they aren't covered well on the inside. They sound more like a fluttering or flapping.
