CD changer in trunk - E39

I just bought an alpine 630 cd changer for a 98 528i off of ebay and the mounting brackets that came with it are confusing to me.

The adaptors are merely L-shaped metal pieces that mount to the roof of the trunk.

Do I need to drill into the roof of the trunk to mount this cd changer?
