| radio codes Hi I need help. I have an 97 328is. It has the HK system, but I pulled the battery and left it out too long before I plugged back in. Now it ask me for a radio code. Does anyone have it? Or the procedure to do it? Do you guys think that if I bring it back into the dealer they would charge me? Thanks in advance. |

| The code is most likely not in the owner's manual, otherwise it would defeat the purpose of having the code in the first place. You should be able to find it out free from the dealer, I had this done a while back with my stock radio. I think it's based on the serial # on the radio (or possibly the VIN# ?), can't remember. Anyways, they just punch it into the computer and voila... |

| Go to the dealer. I took my '93 to the local dealer (before I might have this problem). It took them less than 5 minutes to pop out the radio (OE) and get the code off their computer - gave me a print out to keep. Even thought they told me on the phone it would be $25 and a short wait - no charge! I was really impressed. Hadn't even purchased the car from them! |

I just see it as common sense on what not to do. Like leaving the password to your computer on a sticky note under the keyboard or leaving your spare house key under the doormat, etc... |

that's right up there with the old school benzi boxes under the seat and the detachable face plate radios that get put into the glove box! I guess I just take it for granted that everyone has and uses good common sense.![]()
