| Head Unit Cutting Out I bought my '92 318 about three months ago, and even when I first bought it, the head unit would shut off, then turn back on again if I turned it up too loud. The head unit isn't stock, it's actually a pretty nice Sony head unit, although I'm not sure which model, and the guy I bought it from didn't have any information on it. But anyway, I first noticed this when I first got the car home (I didn't know how to drive a manual then), I was sitting in my driveway with it not running, just the power turned on, listening to the radio, seeing how good it sounded, and when I turned it up too loud, it shut off. It seems as though when the car is turned on, it doesn't shut off as early, but it still shuts off. I haven't pulled the head unit out to check for loose wires or anything, but I don't think I can without a special tool...is that right? My friend told me it looked like I needed a special tool, I don't remember what he called it. Well, anyway, my friend and I installed two 12" Kenwood subs and an 800 watt amp about a month ago. The sub wiring was already done and ready to be hooked up when I bought the car. But now the head unit seems to shut off even earlier...is this a common problem? Or was the head unit simply poorly installed?
Oh, and by the way, I did a search on this and couldn't find my exact problem...hopefully one of you guys can help... |
